In the Garden Lyrics
Artist: Alan Jackson
Album: Precious Memories
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
I'd stay in the garden with Him
'Tho the night around me is falling
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

Comments/Interpretations
I don't know if this is the same hymn, but, I recall, from my childhood, in the 1950's that my mother told us her father, Rev. Thomas C. Hughes, who passed away in 1941, actually wrote the song In The Garden. He is said to have sold the rights to it to whoever is credited with composing the song to feed his large family. We do have some very old songs he wrote. Sadly, most of his grandchildren and later generations never got to meet him. He died in his very early 40's when my mother was 12 years old or nearly 12. Does anyone know anything about the composition of the song and its origins?
