This is actually such a beautiful response to someone who is suicidal, as the friend she's singing to is. She mentions this fact in the first verse. She gives reasons to live, saying that if they didn't exist (if we were... etc.) she would join him.
I also love the way she joins them by starting the first verse addressing that person, then in the second addresses, "I", then "you and I" and finally in the last verse she addresses "we". It's clever.
