Halo of Flies Lyrics
Artist: Alice Cooper
Album: Killer
I've got the answers
To all of your questions
If you've got the money
To pay me in gold
I will be living
In old Monte Carlo
And you will be reading
The secrets I sold
Daggers and contacts
And bright shiny limos
I've got a watch
That turns into a lifeboat
Glimmering nightgowns
And poisonous cobras
Silencer under the heel of my shoe
The elegance of China
They sent her to lie here on her back
But as she deeply moves me
She'd rather shoot me in my tracks
And while a Middle Asian lady
She really came as no surprise
But I still did destroy her
And I will smash
Halo of flies
I crossed the ocean
Where no one could see
And I put a time-bomb
In your submarine
Goodbye to old friends
The secret's in hand
With phony note papers
And counterfeit plans
You never will understand

Comments/Interpretations
This is one of my favourite songs. The orchestration is very intricate and the lyrics are at once poetic in the trademark Alice Cooper style, that is, darkly humorous and surreal. Plus, I think eight minutes is a good length for a song. It gives you time to get something going. I feel let down if a song ends before at least five minutes have gone by. That must be just the classic rock in me.
I grew up in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado in the early 70's and I listened to every Alice Cooper album I could get my hands on. Killer was one of the best, especially Halo of Flies. As time went on I stopped listening to Alice Cooper. Got married, raised kids etc. Now I've gotten back to listening to Alice Cooper after I got my iPod and it's amazing after all this time that Killer is as good as it is. Great songs that never fade with time.
