Snowbird Lyrics
Artist: Anne Murray
Snowbird
Anne Murray
Written by Gene MacLellan
Peaked at # 8 in 1970
Beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean
The unborn grass lies waiting for its coat to turn to green
The snowbird sings the song he always sings
And speaks to me of flowers that will bloom again in spring
When I was young my heart was young then, too
Anything that it would tell me, that's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life's the thing that I can't win
CHORUS
Spread your tiny wings and fly away
And take the snow back with you
Where it came from on that day
The one I love forever is untrue
And if I could you know that I would
Fly away with you
The breeze along the river seems to say
That he'll only break my heart again should I decide to stay
So, little snowbird, take me with you when you go
To that land of gentle breezes where the peaceful waters flow
CHORUS
Yeah, if I could I know that I would fl-y-y-y-y away with you

Snowbird was written by Gene MacLellan, not Anne Murray.
It was a suicide note.
Excellent song by A.Murray always brings me joy.
.
It speaks to more than just the Canadian whimsical 'Snowbirds' who migrate down to warmer climes each winter. It speaks to everyone whose loved one went astray. For whatever reason. And it's both sad, decisive and bitter-sweet.
They did it ona episode of THE MUPPET SHOW and at the end this big funny bird appeared and talked about developing the area and joked about a CONDORMINUIM
A REAL`good`EXPLANATION`OF`WHAT.
Hey, she's on "Family Guy" tonight playing herself and singing "Snowbird".
Lmao! I just watched that episode and I had to look up the lyrics. I found it even more amusing when I read the post by Peter Griffin. Hysterical, it totally made my night. :D
I decided to decide for myself what the lyrical meant, and I go with Brian and Stewie. They were both right.
It's a beautiful song. I'd never heard of Anne Murray before that Family Guy episode. It'll probably introduce a lot of people to her, which is great because she's a very talented singer. As to the interpretation of the lyrics: who knows? Not even Anne apparently!
...

This song was written by a fellow I once knew, and his name was Gene MacLellan. He lived not far from me on Prince Edward Island. Anne Murray knew and loved him also. He was a very special man.
Sad song that makes me feel good.
You're all idiots.
It's a tragic song. It's not a happy song.
