Mr. Wendal Lyrics
Artist: Arrested Development
Here, have a dollar,
in fact no brotherman here, have two
Two dollars means a snack for me,
but it means a big deal to you
Be strong, serve God only,
know that if you do, beautiful heaven awaits
That's the poem I wrote for the first time
I saw a man with no clothes, no money, no plate
Mr.Wendal, that's his name,
no one ever knew his name cause he's a no-one
Never thought twice about spending on a ol' bum,
until I had the chance to really get to know one
Now that I know him, to give him money isn't charity
He gives me some knowledge, I buy him some shoes
And to think blacks spend all that money on big colleges,
still most of y'all come out confused
[CHORUS:] Go ahead, Mr.Wendal (2x)
Mr.Wendal has freedom,
a free that you and I think is dumb
Free to be without the worries of a quick to diss society
for Mr.Wendal's a bum
His only worries are sickness
and an occasional harassment by the police and their chase
Uncivilized we call him,
but I just saw him eat off the food we waste
Civilization, are we really civilized, yes or no ?
Who are we to judge ?
When thousands of innocent men could be brutally enslaved
and killed over a racist grudge
Mr.Wendal has tried to warn us about our ways
but we don't hear him talk
Is it his fault when we've gone too far,
and we got too far, cause on him we walk
Mr.Wendal, a man, a human in flesh,
but not by law
I feed you dignity to stand with pride,
realize that all in all you stand tall
Mr.Wendal, yeah yeah yeah, Lord, Mr.Wendal

A truly classic song, and no mistake.

Anyone who calls it awful does not have a soul. A terrific song with an even better message.
This is one for Obama and McCain to learn from.........one for the world........ a message likened to the Moody Blue... there is no doubt!
great song, gave me goose bumbs reading the words, so true, doesnt matter the class of a person for them to share their knowledge. im sure that more homeless and poor people gave back to the general public more than any suit... take care of the humans you can help!!!

This song is deep. Marvelous song indeed.
In this world there is enough for everyone but greed(literates call it Capitalism) got us fighting for resources.
i like this song but now know the words and its alot better
great song, like kinda gets a message across through great music
so great song !
to previous commentor - don't like capitalism? you wouldn't even be commenting at all if much of the rest of the world had it's imposing/controlling way! the bum is a pure slacker while the rest of produce, work, pay taxes - nice! Prefer the satisfaction derived from accomplishing things!
one of my favorites
Gay

This song is great...especially if you are on drugs!!!
This is a great song with lots of meaning. It is a wake up call to everyone. I give to the needy every chance I get.
Had a good beat, but it's really a bleeding heart song. Some folks are down on their luck, but a guy who has thrown in the towel and now sponges off whoever he can is a bum. Doesn't mean he should be denigrated, but let's not make heroes out of bums...our kids deserve better than that.
Try Paul Oakenfold version-also nice
its not making bums out to be heroes its just that if you go to a big city in america and go to the slums do you see anyone helping those people? many of them may have been swindled by some finnancial thing or some other uncontrollable event does that give people the right to kick and ignore them, not recognising them as a human person?
i was jammin to every word in this song and while readin the lyrics over i sang it in my head. all of my friends never really got th message to this song but when i hear it i know that in reality ife is tough and this song has a great message to help get through it.
Nah, brotherman, here, have two!
Paul Oakenfold's mix is
Arrested Development
Mr. Wendal (Perfecto Mix)
also featured on his "Greatest Hits and Remixes" Album.
Its not fair to say that all bums are worthless, ignorant or lazy. A LOT of them are down on their luck. My MIL gave a bum 20$ then next week another 20$ the week after another 20$... you get the idea right? Well a few weeks of this and the bum came to her door and asked for a hotel room because he had a job interview. He said he needed a place to shower and keep his dog whilst he was at the interview. She did buy him a room and we NEVER saw him again. I'm sure he just needed a a hand UP not a hand out! I've talked to quite a few bums in my life and most of them teach me something each time I talk to them. People shouldn't be so damn judgmental! If I was homeless, Id probably want a drink or something to make me forget too. I can't imagine how hard street life must be! I always help a bum out when I can cause ya never know when you can help them for real.
this song isn't about glamorizing laziness or trying to say that we should help bums, it's about taking a step back and looking at what life is really about without letting the pursuit of material things clouding our vision. Mr. Wendal in this song is just supposed to represent the amount of knowledge we can find if we were to seperate ourselves from the materialistic completely, as a homeless person is.
nice
i love this song, my guidence counsler played it to me and i think its the best!!!!!
This song scars me but its a good song
love it
I like the song. I have been down on my luck and just bcuz u r down does.t mean u r out or dumb. Stay strong and PRAY and everything will be okay........
In My HighSchool We Called It Mr.Dildo
F**k you Lee! This song is awesome! YOU make ME VOMIT!!!!!!
This song is so old. It wasn't even good when it first came out. Song sucks. Message is old and tired too. Get over it.
this song is about helping people(homeless)
good shit man !
the best shit man
Great inspiring song..
i love the message , humanity, humanity, non-judgementality
the message is very very true. The beat is sick! Go arrested development!
Great song for peac'fully world
Actually--now a days--most "bums" are pretty well off. They just sucker you into giving them money. A family member who's a cop followed one home randomly one day and found the guy (a stereotypical bum) who lived in roughly 3 bedroom house and drove a newish looking BMW. I'd be more than happy to help those who legitemitately need help, but there are too many wolves in sheep's clothing.
i'm Italian, and this is the first time that i listen this amazing song...it's beautiful!!really!!it's not very young, and i thought that's for me is gonna to be bored, instead it's one of the best song i never listened!!!:-)
Cool song! The lyrics still work today! Mr Wendal rules!
This is a great song. The lyrics are deep and make you think. I always try to help people who are in need.
Great
I remember my uncle used to jam to this song... I used to think it said "Mr Window" because of the dude in the window in the music video. I was very young & loved the beat... After 20 something years, I never forgot the song. It wasn't till today after these 20 something years that I looked it up and read the lyrics, amazing song.
early nineties my good friend laz, could play this song on a casette, never knew it had such powerful substance, simply gorgeous.
I'm about to turn 40 and that tune is as fresh as the day I heard it back in 1992! For me, the song was about playing it loud and singing at the top of my voice. I've just listened to the whole tune with lyrics and cried the whole way through...Its beautiful. Beautifully written, beautifully put together. Very powerful. Have I grown up a bit??
MUSIC
This song means a lot especially now that i am off the street. next time you see a bum, like mr. wendal don't be afraid to help him or her.
Nice song. I like the message & the beat of the song. I have liked this song since 1992, & I still do. We should all try to help the less privileged every chance we get because you never know when it can happen to you or me.
Just got back from church. Strangely enough the priest recited the entire song during his sermon, as if he use to jam to it back in the day.....lol
It's a beautiful message, I had to come home and play the song! 😊
this song is a poor excuse for people too lazy to go to school.
great song
i love the song, its one the best old school music........i love it, i love it, i love it
I remember this song. Now I sit here wondering were did it go.
Deep and inspiring, wish we could all unlearn the stuffs composed by peple who wants the masses not be aware of the real thing; making us more confused creating a class in living life!
I am 56 and never heard this song until now! So eye opening! Definitely had the power to change my perception of the homeless. I will not walk past and ignore them, out of fear, any longer.
