People Everyday Lyrics

Artist: Arrested Development

See I was resting at the park minding my own
business as I kick up the treble tone
on my radio tape player box, right
just loud enough so folks could hear it's hype, see ?
Outta nowhere comes the woman I'm dating
investigation maybe she was demonstrating
But nevertheless I was pleased
My day was going great and my soul was at ease
until a group of brothers started bugging out
drinking the 40 oz, going the nigga route
Disrespecting my black queen
holding their crotches and being obscene
At first I ignored them cause see I know their type
They got drunk and got guns and they wanna fight
and they see a young couple having a time that's good
and their egos wanna test a brother's manhood
So they came to test Speech cause of my hair-do
and the loud bright colors that I wear [Boo !]
I was a target cause I'm a fashion misfit
and the outfit that I'm wearing brothers dissing it
Well I stay calm and pray the niggaz leave me be
but they're squeezing parts of my date's anatomy
Why, Lord, do brothers have to drill me ?
Cause if I start to hit this man they'll have to kill me

[CHORUS:] I am everyday people (2x)

I told the niggaz please let us pass, friend
I said please cause I don't like killing Africans
but he wouldn't stop and I ain't Ice Cube
but I had to take the brother out for being rude
and like I said before I was mad by then
It took three or four cops to pull me off of him
But that's the story y'all of a black man
acting like a nigga and get stomped by an African

[CHORUS]

Yeah Sammy I know what you mean, brings back a lot of memories... mind you, I never knew what the song's story was before I read the lyrics today, but it only makes me like the song more, such sweet relief from Gangsta cRap.

The 90's were awesome! I was 3 in '92 when this came out, such great memories. Now granted, there was a lot of mess, but there was personality with acts unlike many folks who call themselves artists today.

by HymeeHonkeeKrakka on 4/18/2011 9:34am
Is the protagonist a Banger himself or from Africa with his "bright colors?"
by Wangira Morgan Ambrose on 5/3/2011 1:18am
Man, this song is off the hook, wish we get back to the old days of music. Today Music has lost meaning. Lets take it back.
by Allegra on 5/17/2011 2:03pm
@ HymeeHonkeeKrakka, the protagonists are not africans but black Americans just like Speech. It is a more politically correct term to use Africans as opposed to blacks in some quarters as black is considered derogatory.
by Smokin Joe on 5/27/2011 4:04pm

Always fresh....
by Casey J. on 4/19/2012 11:17am
You guys are wrong. This song is a good song but the "good music" phase. Every decade has there own sense of good music and it's wrong to say that the people in music now a days dont have any talent or meaning. Not everybody is great...but still.
by cheryl on 5/4/2012 2:40pm
The best!
by Peter on 5/13/2012 2:37am
Is there a harp used in this song?
by Queen Nzingah on 5/26/2012 5:02pm
This song is an incredible reflection of the realities we, Black/Afican Americans (whichever is fitting 4 you)as a people face, often time on a daily basis...Peace & blessings
by agatha abdullahi on 6/8/2012 2:38pm
This song have been driving me crazy since 90s I luv it coz it realy arrested my development.
by Jonathan Mucyo on 9/9/2012 5:02pm
This takes me back to the late 90's when hip hop was the best, 4 me at least. and the fact that up 2 today people are being bullied and dissed 4 no reason but who they are?. man I miss those days. And this song takes me back there.
by E on 9/25/2012 3:11pm
"but there aint no deffrent between Afrikan and a Negro(nigga) it equal damn!!"...oh yes there is, a HUGE difference between and African American and a "Nigga" two different worlds entirely.
by JASHAYLA M JACKSON on 11/26/2012 1:27am
this song is off the chane because when you see a couple having fun dont test the brothers man hood
by Irene on 1/22/2013 12:14am

the memories of 80s and 90s cant come back again, these guys were simply inspirational and talented musician, they played a classical and unadulterated music in their time.which is quite different with the music obtainable this days.
