My Hometown Lyrics
Artist: Bruce Springsteen
I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
I'd sit on his lap in that big old Buick and steer as we drove through town
He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around this is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
In `65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a Saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come to my hometown
My hometown
My hometown
My hometown
Now Main Street's whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more
They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back to your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Last night me and Kate we laid in bed
talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
I'm thirty-five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good look around
This is your hometown

Comments/Interpretations
i love this song:]
Hi Becca
I am from perú, my english is simple and this song I use to listen years ago without caring the words. Now that I am older I am relistening the old songs I use enjoy. But now, what call my attention was the recurrent day you chose to put it on the web: my mother's death day and other important things that happened the very same day.
you make feel people like me less lonley:) thanks
Takes a good soul to understand and like songs like this, Me too Becca
I listened this song first time at my girlfriend and just loved it. But couldn't get it all because no english background. But now it means a lot with this lyric. Thanks very much.
This is a great song, first i heard it from my late brother in 1994, he was coming from states for his Master Degree at Carnegie Mellon Varsity. He brought lot of pop/classic/rock music CDs and by then CD players were uncommon in Africa, I enjoyed the song til now...
One of my favorite songs ... each time I listen to my heart squeezes ...
He doesn't repeat Hometown over and over. He says Hometown first, then says "OWN town", and repeats that pattern throughout.
