Anticipation Lyrics
Artist: Carly Simon
Album: Anticipation
We can never know about the days to come
But we think about them anyway, yay
And I wonder if I'm really with you now
Or just chasin' after some finer day
Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'
And I tell you how easy it feels to be with you
And how right your arms feel around me
But I, I rehearsed those lines just late last night
When I was thinkin' about how right tonight might be
Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'
And tomorrow we might not be together
I'm no prophet and I don't know nature's ways
So I'll try and see into your eyes right now
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days
(These are the good old days)
And stay right here 'cause these are the good old days
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are the good old days)
(These are.....the good old days)

Comments/Interpretations
did you know that this was made famous by a heinz ketchup commercial.
so amazing
Is that really Carly? see my blog www.expatprincess.com for an hommage to one of my favorite songstress'.
Song Carly wrote about Cat Stevens
this was written for cat steevens now known as yusuf islam... they were lovers in the early 70's
Cat Stevens song Angelsea is about Carly Simon. The intentionally garbled refrain, if you listen very closely, is the chorus singing the name "Carly Simon..."
This song and these lyrics were co-written by Carly and her old friend Jacob Brackman. He was into a Zen kinda thing and wrote this- it is a good song.
This song was actually written about her lover (and husband) James Taylor earlier in their relationship. She wrote it one night waiting for him to arrive for a date.
Did you know Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam) and Warren Beatty wrote this while waiting for a threesome-date with James Taylor?
Good Stuff
Umm, the ketchup commercial came along LONG after this song had already been a big hit. The commercial had nothing to do with it's being a hit originally. (But did help further sales of the track when the commercial came out.)
This song is about Carly, James, and Cat Stevens wanting a foursome with Heinze ketchup.
Me thinkz some have too much time on their handz
They got it wrong! The line is "I rehearsed those WORDS just late last night" not 'lines'! Get it right, people!
I love this song. I sing it to my husband all the time.
this song always makes me cry.
And I waited a long time.
I know this song for 30 years but didn't realize how beautiful the lyrics is until slow acoustic version.

It amazes me what gets around. Simon wrote "Anticipation" as heard in an interview and an article in Rolling Stone about her excitement awaiting Cat Stevens to arrive for their first date. She finally revealed after decades that "You're So Vain" was about Warren Beatty (big surprise). Bet your house on it. I doubt Beatty ever wrote any song of recognition.
no...but maybe warren "shampoo'd" her hair!!!!HAHAHAH!
Man, Carly Simon sure did get around!
Lest we forget that the alleged source of Carly's anticipation later backed Ayatollah Khomeni's Fatwa death threat against author Salmon Rushdie for writing the Satanic Verses - a book supposedly blasphemous against Islam. When an artist - even a former and fatuous artist of little consequence supports a death threat against a fellow artist because of his ideas - his writings, then should we not, as freedom loving fans react by NEVER UTTERING HIS DAMNED NAME AGAIN!!!
Carly simon will you marry me?
