Sullivan Lyrics
Artist: Caroline's Spine
Album: Monsoon
It's not hard to reach back to the day
underneath an Iowa sun.
running to the tower of waterloo, looking
for the sullivan train to come.
His five boys would run to the top and
salute him as he went bye.
First we'd wave hello.
Then we'd wave goodbye.
It's not hard to reach back to the days
after the attack on Pearl.
Overnight my buddies turned into men, run-
ning out of time for games and girls.
The Sullivan boys were not overlooked
Uncle Sam calling each by name.
The very next day they left on a mystery
train.
Say goodbye, bye, bye, Mrs. Sullivan
don't you cry, cry, cry, cry, cry.
"We regret to inform you
the Navy has taken your sons away."
So put your blue star in the window.
It's not hard to reach back to her smile,
when she received the letter.
The ltters, they sounded generally the
same it said: "If they coudn't
be home, at least they were together on a
mighty fighting battleship,
somewhere in the south pacific."
The letters never got much more specific.
Say goodbye, bye, bye, mrs sullivan
dont you cry, cry, cry, cry, cry.
"we regret to infrom you
the Navy is keeping your sons away."
All five, five, five, five.
So keep your blue star in the window.
It's not hard to reach back to the day
when the war finally came home.
Uncle Sam will send you a telegram, so he
doesnt have to tell you over the phone.
I heard she cracked up, when they found
out what the war had cost,
and all five of her boys were lost.
Say goodbye mrs sullivan
go ahead and cry.
"We regret to inform you that all your sons
have passed away."
.....All five!
So change your blue star to gold.

Dude Some Of The Lyric R Messed Up
that is a sad fricken song
malimali la ring letra mu mulala ka!!
Yeah, I noticed that some of the lyrics were wrong. And parts were missing.
I love this song tho. I live in waterloo :)
Saddest part is its a true story, and since the Sullivan Brothers all died on their ship no branch of the military allows family members to serve in the same unit. They mention it briefly in Saving Private Ryan, and theres an old movie about them called The Fighting Sullivans, mid-50s i think, black and white flick.
This is truly a sad song and the sad part is i have met one of the sulivan brothers granddaugters
Grrrr... Not the full song! Original version is best.
the lyrics are not all here and the words are messed up too.
Yeah this is a pretty badass song. My name's Sullivan. Maybe I'm related to them.
yeah, it's a true story, there is a museum in waterloo, and there was a ship named after them also, uss the sullivans...
There is a movie about it from the 50's. It's an amazing movie. I believe that it was also remade. The government will also not take males if they are the only son or they are the only ones considered capable of carrying on the family name.
actually it gets more sad. Three of the five died instantly but 2 of them could hv been saved. The other ships were ordered to keep gng becuz they didn't want them hit by the japanese submarine. The captains gave orders that other ships be sent to look for survivors, but those orders were sent with other paperwork that wasn't looked at for days. there were at least 10 survivors of the initial attack. 10 that were left in shark infested water with the elements. Al and George survived at first, but Al died the next day of drowning. Then George died on the fourth or fifth day. Apparently he went insane with grief after hving lost his brothers. He dove under the water and was not seen again :0((
I LOVE this song, but lot of parts missing and check your spelling
But good work! :D
Doing this song for a historical song in history. Teacher cried when he heard it. His dad was a sullivan brother.
I remember listening to this song awhile back. After that I listen to every now and then now it's embedded into my mind and catch myself singing it. You could see the movies about them on YouTube, very interesting if you black and white flicks.
