Catch The Wind Lyrics

Artist: Donovan

Catch The Wind (Version II)
Donovan

In the chilly hours and minutes
Of uncertainty
I want to be
In the warm hold of your lovin' mind.

To feel you all around me
And to take your hand
Along the sand,
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

When sundown pales the sky
I want to hide a while
Behind your smile,
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.

For me to love you now
Would be the sweetest thing,
'T would make me sing,
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

Diddy di dee dee diddy diddy,
Diddy diddy diddy dee dee dee.

When rain has hung the leaves with tears
I want you near to kill my fears,
To help me to leave all my blues behind.

For standin' in your heart
Is where I want to be
And long to be,
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

----

CATCH THE WIND
Donovan

In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty
I long to be in the warm hold of your mind
To feel you all around me and to take your hand across the sand
Ah but I may as well try and catch the wind

When sundown pales the sky I want to hide a while behind your smile
And everywhere I'd look your eyes I'd find
For me to love you now would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing
Ah but I might as well try and catch the wind
Dee dee dee dee etc

When rain has covered leaves with tears
I want you near to kill my fears
To help me leave all my blues behind
While standing in your heart is where I wanna be and long to be
Ah but I might as well try and catch the wind
Ah but I may as well try and catch the wind

Wish I'd written this. It is incomparable. Nothing but respect and admiration for Donovan, who made a beautiful, gripping poem into a popular song, like no other, before or since.

I found this song the other day, and it made me nearly cry. The words are so simple yet powerful. I am not one to listen to 60's music usually, but this song is gorgeous. It's about true love, i think. True, unconditional, permanent, honest love. Sadly it is unrequited. I know the feeling. Wind would truly be easier to catch. Im in love with this song!!

I still have Donovan on vinyl. Tonight he has been on "Deep Tracks"
xm radio in honor of the HOF induction. This song reminds me of my late husband. We lived and traveled in a blue school bus during those days.I will always miss him and the song he used to sing to me.
by Cowboy on 4/5/2012 11:51am
The interpretation of any art form likely differs from person to person. For me this songs speaks not so much of unrequited love, but of unrealized, impossibly sad love; as in when two lovers cannot be together because they are already married to others and cannot bring themselves to devastate the lives of their respective families or overcome their own consciences and traditional moral beliefs to just let go and be together.

At times of uncertainty you must be hard and stop feeling sorry for yourself. It's ok when you are maudlin in whisky though!

At 17 I loved this song...the lyric resonated as unrequited love—
Today at 67 , i woke with this song in my mind
I reached for my guitar ...
The lyrics flowed,,, the chords, strumming and picking like when I played it when was 17,,,,
But now, the lyric really resonated ,, having lost my husband last year .....
To feel you all around me....... but ah, i maybas well try to catch the wind.
I do beleive I had a visitation this morning
