Oh My Papa Lyrics
Artist: Eddie Fisher
OH, MY PA-PA
Eddie Fisher
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so good
No one could be, so gentle and so lovable
Oh, my pa-pa, he always understood.
Gone are the days when he could take me on his knee
And with a smile he'd change my tears to laughter
Oh, my pa-pa, so funny, so adorable
Always the clown so funny in his way
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Deep in my heart I miss him so today.

I remember Jim Neighbors sang this song as Gomer Pyle on his show...I remember hearing it as a boy, about 5 or 6 and thinking to myself, "My Dad's an asshole."

Dad, we miss you soooo much that it hurts. I can still hear you singing this song in my mind. I never appreciated your singing until you were gone. Now, I find myself walking around and cleaning the house and singing your favorite songs to comfort me. We all love and miss you. Lena
You left us on 1/13/10 at 97 yrs. old. At the chapel the guitarist sang this song (which I did not choose) but I believe this was your choice. I will miss you until I see you again.

This song was chosen by one of my co-teachers to be sang by the school staff in the necro service we are rendering to the late Mr. Rudicindo Higoy, former Principal of our school, this afternoon. As a principal of this school, this song make us remember him as a great father and mentor. We lovingly dedicate this song to him!

I really loved this song and it makes me cry always...I was a daddy's girl and the lyrics seemed made for my dad as he used to put me and my sis on his lap and tell same stories all over again everyday and sing same song all over again, yet we loved to hear it all the time..my dad passed away a few years ago and still missed him so much..
this is not the way we sing it in the vi
I remember this song from my childhood days. My Dad was a strict disciplinarian, having served in the army, yet he loved me more than himself. Later, that love got transferred to my children. The trouble is that I found it difficult to express my love for him when he was living, but the day he passed away, on 4th July 1982, it all came surging back and I mourned for him actively for 11 years after that. I still miss him dearly, think of him almost everyday and my earnest desire is to hug him and tell him how much I love him. I am 65 years old, I dream of him often and am waiting for the day when I shall meet him again. This song will always be dear to me.
I also remember Jim Nabors singing "Oh My Papa" on the Gomer Pyle USMC. I cried then and I still tear up a little whenever I hear it performed. Can't get through the lyrics myself without getting choked up... AND my father is still alive!
this is my favorite song!
oh my pa-pa.....
When I was 2,Iwould sing this song for my father.Today is 28 years since he died.Over these years the song would bring tears to my eyes when Iheard it.Today I sang the song in honor for my hero dad.
My mother used to sing this song to my son when he was little. He's 26 now and my mother passed away almost 6 years ago.
rest in peace
I was surprised to hear that Eddie Fisher had died—I thought he already had. One of the most vivid memories I have was when I was 6 years old and my dad was in the hospital with his first heart attack. All I knew was that this was not good and that the routines I knew had changed and something was terribly wrong with my dad. Anyway, I can remember lying on the floor beside the dining room table playing with this Ivanhoe castle and knights and hearing the song, “Oh, My Papa.” I think that was the first time I had paid attention to the words of a song, and I remember feeling terribly sad and frightened. Even now, 57 years later, I have tears in my eyes remembering.
What an awesome tribute to a father, this song truly hits home. Miss you Pop!
Love this song reminds me so much of my dear Dad I will be saying goodbye to him for the final time tomorrow. We will sing this at the service.
I remembering hearing this song when I was about 13. My favorite cousin, Judy, and I were at a cousin's house and she had lost her father (he had a heart attack). She broke out crying and we cried together. I just returned to Calif. on vacation, and visited the older cousin who lived in the old farm house where Judy and I listened to "Oh, My Papa." Judy passed away a few years ago and I miss her so very much. My own father passed away in 2002. How odd it seems that I was just with my older cousin, Eddie, age 82, and right after that, I learned that Eddie Fisher just passed away and he made "Oh, My Papa" so popular. I have been recalling Judy and I listening to that song so long ago and crying together because she had lost her "papa". What a beautifil song it is and still makes me cry! Judy would have been 65 yesterday on Sept. 26, 2010. My "papa" would have been 91 last month. I think of him and miss him everyday! This song will live on forever in honor of our dear Fathers.
I am saddened to hear Eddie Fisher died last week. I was about 13 when I first heard his song "Oh, My Papa" in a cousin's old farm house. Another cousin, Judy, was with me and her father had died of a heart attack. She was 11 weeks older than me. We listened to the song and cried together. I have never forgotten that day and now Judy and my father have both passed away and I miss them so much. This is a wonderful song that will live on forever! Thank you, Eddie Fisher!
My father died in 1981 and this song will always be his but.....it was Mr. Ed who sang it to me the first time as a child - for those of you too young to remember, Mr. Ed was a horse of course ;)
My father died on 10/10/10 and this was one of his favourite songs that he used to sing to my sisters and I when we were children. It was also sung at his funeral. This is a wonderful song and whenever I hear it I will always remember my father.
I only had my father for 26 years of my life. He died in 1965. I used to sing this song to him all the time. I cannot sing it even now without crying.
This song was played by Crawford Bell at the annual deceased dockers mass in belfast in November 2010 and it brought many grown men and women in the congregation to tears
My father died in March 2010. We had grown distant over the years and then he was gone. This was 1 of the songs he used to sing to me when I was a kid and I wish he was still around to sing it once again...
my father was old but
he makes me happy everyday
Our father passed away last week. My brothers, sisters and I used to listen to this song in the 60s in Vietnam. It will be played at our father's funeral. Dad, we all loved you and missed you dearly. This is a wonderful song and will live on forever.
In 1952 my dear Italian Grandfather died, I was four years old. I remember it so clearly. It was like the scene in the Godfather where Brando was playing with his grandson in the garden. My Grandfather had a little Italian bar and restaurant and after he passed away all the patrons came in and played,"Oh My Pa Pa on the juke box. It made my Father so sad, now my Father is being cared for by hospice and is just days away. My thoughts go back to that wonderful song and how meangingful it is to me right now
I sang this song in the school play solo at the age of six in 1954 to an audience of several hundred people. The play was on Father's day that year and it was entirely appropriate. My father died 31 years ago and this song continues to have special meaning for me.
my dad passed 15 years ago when i was a kid. My mother had done job and made us able to stand by ourselves. I used to think myself to be grown up, however, today i miss my father a lot probably more than anyone else in this world. I really love my PaPa. HAd he been there I would have been on top of tis world today and have made him proud, where I am today. I miss my dad.
This song was from my childhood, I wish I had played it at my Papa's funeral.....
The words say it all. I miss my Dad every minute of every day. I talk with him and still ask his advice and I still feel him watching out for me. He made me laugh and cry. I'm 58 but will always be daddy's girl. Love you Dad.xxxx
I love the words to this song, I really loved my Dad, I too couldent show him but he he loved me so much, I always remember the love he had in his eyes when he would look at me. He died just beforE my 18th birthday. When I was 28 I became a christian I found Jesus through reading the new testament and asking him to forgive me os all my sins and to come into my life. Too long to explain but He is very real to me. I wish I had known him when my Dad was alive. To you all pray thesinners pray and get yourself a bible and go to a church where they preach and teach the bible, a christian church, your life will be changed forever. This song has touched me so through the years....I have a friend who also misses a beloved Papa...we are taking turns texting each other the next line of the song. This is a classic, and it will hard to find one that will span the eons of time that this because song has endured.
I was just a small boy when I first heard this song. I felt the song so touching and so sentimental. Though the song is really great and quite moving, I never sang it in the pass even I wanted to. Yesterday, my father passed away. Being in a place far from home and thinking of how wonderful a father he was, it came to me naturally singing this song. How emotional it was. From now on I will be singing this song whenever I remember my father and days gone by.. My he rest in peace with the Lord.
I remember my Dad singing this song when I was 4 or 5 & saw tears in his eyes thinking about his own Dad.
I had this song stuck in my head for a very long time Oh my papa didn't really know it was a song until one of my coworkers told me when she heard me singing oh my papa, was a song and she sang some lyrics to it. I must of heard it when I was younger.

This was my fathers favourite song,he was very musical and would play it often. He was a father with 6 kids and had so much love for us all including mum.But he passed away at the young age of 61,I think of him every day.Christmas he would play his piano accordian, and we would all sing christmas carols,i so miss all the joy he brought to our home,i love and miss you very much, may god bless you and all the other loving fathers of this world.
When I was a young boy, this was one of the songs my mother and I heard on the radio often enough, listened to it, and even sang it together. My own father, alas!, never reflected the meaning of the lyrics to me, although my mom's father, who had passed away in Greece, did for her. She often spoke of her dad as a wise, loving, self-sacrificing, well-respected man. Now, for some reason, the song came back to my attention, and it occurs to me that for my very own purposes I could change the words to apply to my Mama instead, although "Goodnight, Irene" has, for me, always been her song. It is sad that my father mistreated both her and me, but it is wonderful that these lyrics do apply to my mama and did apply to my gramps, her papa!
This is my mum's favourite song, she adored her dad who passed at 54 and played this often.
I'm played this at her funeral this yesterday during a power point presentation of her life as I'm sure she would have liked that.
RIP mum you're now with your dad, mum, brother and everyone you loved including your pets who have passed. Miss you.
Miss you Dad - now I'm the papa! Hope I'm half the dad you were xx

Was such a sad time I will never get over losing him and miss him every day.
So memorable were the days when my papa was still around....Oh My Papa indeed.
My Dad. My hero. I'll never stop missing you and your gentleness.
My Dad died very suddenly 7 days ago. It is a beautiful song which describes my Dad and my children's Papa so well. It is one of the 3 songs to be played at his cremation on Dec 22nd. how I miss him so very much x
Such beautiful comments by all... my Dad is still alive... the song makes me spend more time with him...
Dear dad u r always in my heart
I heard this song last night while watching Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. which is in reruns. It made me very emotional and I'm crying as I'm writing this. Though we had our ups and downs, I still miss my father very much
and wish that both he and my mother were still here. I haven't heard this song in ages.
Such lovely and sad comments. I haven’t heard this song in decades: my parents used to play it in the early 60’s. I’m 70 and my parents are both dead. And I had ups and downs with them too, but miss them. My husband died last year and now our children miss him most deeply. I don’t think they could bear this little song just yet.How wonderful will that day be when death is finally abolished.
I would love to think that my daughters might want this played for me at my funeral. I'm old now and they have lives of their own, but to me they are forever my two be-loved little girls and I will love them forever.
