Cheer Down Lyrics

Artist: George Harrison

I can see by your grin
That you're trembling within
It's all over town, cheer down
And the smile on your face
Is sometimes out of place
Don't mind, no frowns, cheer down.

If your hair should fall
If your shares should crash
You'll get by even without getting a rash

There's no tears to be shed
I'm gonna love you instead
I want you around, cheer down.

When your teeth drop out
You'll get by even without taking a bite

If your dog should be dead
I'm gonna love you instead
The world loves a clown, cheer down.
I want you around, cheer down

This is one of my favorite George Harrison songs even though it is not one of his populare songs.

I first heard this song at the end of Lethal Weapon 2 and did not know it was coming. Thank God I stayed in my seat and then I was glued there for several minutes after the song. It was mind altering for me and I felt this song would be a favorite of mine for a long time. Just listened to it today for the first time in a long time and nothing has changed. It brings tears to my eyes.

Just as Dave in KC heard this at the end of Lethal Weapon 2, I too heard this song at the end of this movie and just the haunting guitar rifs and solo by George Harrison was enough to capture me. Later as I learned the lyrics, I was amazed by the simple yet poetic lyrics of someone who loves a person as they are, no matter what may come.....cheer down!
by Roberto Chumacero on 1/26/2009 11:03pm
One of the most simple and poetic songs i heard,it`s just beautiful how George Harrison captures anyone with this kind of musical work

Another great creation by george. Ones who love george, cannot simply afford to miss this number. It heals the heart and soul in depressed moments of life.

Just started the car up at the drive-in to go home straight after the movie. LW2. "Cheer Down" came on with the credits. Just couldn't leave. Switched the car off. Loved it from first sound and now still more.

first time i heard this song from cd live at japan, i loved it - George's solo is great. I always wanted to see him playing this song. Some months ago I found a DVD - "dark horse years" and this song was there with another three from the show live in japan.

Just like Dave in KC and Orlando - what a superbly simple and addictive track - one of my favourites - for all time.

The only reason I went to Lethal Weapon 2 was to hear George's song. I wasn't the happiest camper when the song didn't appear until the end of the movie...but wow, was it worth it. I, too, sat there in awe, as most others filed out, wondering why this song hadn't exploded on radio. We miss ya George.
by Don Hale on 7/25/2011 2:01pm
They didn't call George the "Thinking Beatle" for nothing. I really miss him!

I loved and still love George Harrison. No one like him. Cheer Down always brings tears to my eyes. Just something about the slide guitar riff. I can listen to this song over and over again....Cheer Down.

My favorite George Harrison song... It stays in my head for days at a clip and I NEVER tire of hearing it. I miss George... The riff was sampled by Pearl Jam on one of their songs. They're cool, but they are not George. Cheer Down, folks.

received "let it roll" cd for christmas with this great song. i take it to be about george's mortality regarding his cancer i.e. should your hair fall out. george is putting on a brave face for others (olivia) i.e. smile on face is out of place, no tears to be shed gonna love you instead, no frowns cheer down. i love his phrase reversal. instead of the expected "cheer up" which he is already showing to those around him he has to cheer down. i believe that this song (lyrics and guitar) is one of george's greatest and one of the greatest songs ever period. i feel this way about a lot of lennon's songs as well and can never understand why others don't see and hear them the same way i do. being 8 years old in 1964 may have something to do with my lifelong taste in music.

Max gets it! One has to have lived life with its up and downs to have been able to have written, played and understand the song. Harrison had the most humility, I think, but in the end he may be the greatest. The song speaks to the soul.

I was beginning to think that I was the only person on Earth to feel a connection to this song. So many people haven't heard of it, that I was starting to wonder if I'd imagined the entire song.

In an ocean full of mediocre pop song sand artists, occasionally one of them breaks through and creates the perfect song. This is a perfect example of that.

I have always had a great love for the Beatles - they are a few years older than I, but as I have grown older George is becoming much more inspirational to me.
