Freedom Lyrics
Artist: George Michael
Album: Freedom
Freedom '90
George Michael
I won't let you down
I will not give you up
Gotta have some faith in the sound
It's the one good thing that I've got
I won't let you down
So please don't give me up
Because I would really, really love to stick around
Heaven knows I was just a young boy
Didn't know what I wanted to be
I was every little hungry schoolgirl's pride and joy
And I guess it was enough for me
To win the race? A prettier face!
Brand new clothes and a big fat place
On your rock and roll TV
But today the way I play the game is not the same
No way
Think I'm gonna get me some happy
I think there's something you should know
I think it's time I told you so
There's something deep inside of me
There's someone else I've got to be
Take back your picture in a frame
Take back your singing in the rain
I just hope you understand
Sometimes the clothes do not make the man
All we have to do now
Is take these lies and make them true somehow
All we have to see
Is that I don't belong to you
And you don't belong to me
Freedom
You've gotta give for what you take
Freedom
You've gotta give for what you take
Heaven knows we sure had some fun boy
What a kick just a buddy and me
We had every big shot good-time band on the run boy
We were living in a fantasy
We won the race
Got out of the place
I went back home got a brand new face
For the boys on MTV
But today the way I play the game has got to change
Oh yeah
Now I'm gonna get myself happy
I think there's something you should know
I think it's time I stopped the show
There's something deep inside of me
There's someone I forgot to be
Take back your picture in a frame
Don't think that I'll be back again
I just hope you understand
Sometimes the clothes do not make the man
All we have to do now
Is take these lies and make them true somehow
All we have to see
Is that I don't belong to you
And you don't belong to me
Freedom
You've gotta give for what you take
Freedom
You've gotta give for what you take
Well it looks like the road to heaven
But it feels like the road to hell
When I knew which side my bread was buttered
I took the knife as well
Posing for another picture
Everybody's got to sell
But when you shake your ass
They notice fast
And some mistakes were built to last
That's what you get
I say that's what you get
That's what you get for changing your mind
And after all this time
I just hope you understand
Sometimes the clothes
Do not make the man
I'll hold on to my freedom
May not be what you want from me
Just the way it's got to be
Lose the face now
I've got to live

I WANT TO KNOW ,WHY NO SONGS OG WHAM AND GEORGEMICHAEL IN KARAOKE,BCOZ IM A KARAOKE GUY,SENT ME KARAOKE ALL SONG OF WHAM
I've never really heard that well, not like deaf but words are lost in high levels of sound for me.
Have always thought this was such a dynamic song had downloaded to my player and was sitting here singin to the lyrics when I percieved the depths, the meaning, simply stunned by the message consideriding the events of the past couple of years.
Though I' straight I'm so moved by his message to the listener, to his fans so to speak
love the sound of the song, cheers me up since my crazy bipolar wife ran off with my children....
Great! This brings back the memories of the sweet '90s.
I have recently "rediscovered" this gem. The lyrics seem so autobiographical for George during that place in time. He did "Rule the World" once...
guess it was enough for me
This is one of the greatest songs ever! We all are free, remember that!
You can definitey tell this song was about him coming out
george michael, all his songs really coming from his own expirience, thats why all the messages of his song,or shld i say each lines was really meaningfull and it is kind of diffrent really heart breaking it seems like its telling about you and many others its us....
es una de las mejores canciones que escuche! me encanta :)
george michael is a true superstar
george michael is a god
george michael is a fucking sexy singer
loveeeeeee this songggg .......... :) :):)
I only love this song if i sing it with Julian....
I loved this at the end of Chuck and Larry.
I love freedom
yeah, he's blaming all of us for sticking him in a pigeon hole...and I'm loving him telling me all about it. It's like when someone tell you to go to hell with a smile on your face. Seriously...I do like the song..but only the part that says I don't belong to you....bla, bla, bla Freedom,,,
freedom,classics canny b b8!!!!
george michael is NOT a god... he is a friggin perv
No place in this world for trash like him.
But Stan you're a nutter, who's gonna listen to you man
Perv perv perv, not good but the music's ok
loved the song and this amazing video back when I was a kid and I still do. It's simply great.
hahha canŽt anyone notice he is talking about him LIKING BOYS???
read the lyrics again, from that point of view, and youŽll finally understand what kind of FREEDOM is george talking about...
Fu**ing awsome!!
Greetings from Estonia
Freedom...that says it all...
lol!!! I just noticed this song is for George micheal, what "I want to break free" is for Freddy mercury. Its about coming out of the closet lol!!!! Still, great song I like it a lot. Brings back memories. I was just a little kid when this was playing on the radio.
i love this song!!!
yOU PEOPLE ARE FUCT HE IS A GRAND AUTHOR LIVE WITH IT
Excellent Lyrics. Great Song. Moving and motivating. George Micheal should try to come back into the music business

This is my all time favourite song. I listened to it first time, when I was in college. I am a big time fan of Geroge Michael.
Love this song!It has so much energy.Good lyrics too.Brings back memories of me & my sister singin freedom out loud as children. Can anyone tell me the name of this album?Thanx
I was just going to write a translation into russian but ... oops.. looks like it has some homosexual content in it .. should i omit this part? or it's not going to look good for my girlfriend .. damn .. otherwise it's a perfect song .. what should i do next? ) regards from ukraine
This song is amazing
George is a fucking brilliant songwriter and singer
his lyrics are chillingly good and his voice is beautiful
I couldn't believe that he wrote "careless whisper" when he was only 17 (my age)! Now that is more proof that he's a musical genius. I must meet this man.
this song is simply a "coming out" song. Yes it's catchy, I love the beat, the piano, cmon - you'd have to be a corpse to not like it. The message is simple, refuse what God made you, and go find "freedom". It's a commercial for slavery.
I have listened to this song before and also a long time after he revealed his homosexuality and I must say now the lyrics really really make sense!! Man, who knew that THATS what he meant in this song? But the lyrics are very touching now that we all know all about him. I think he just needs to be left alone with his homosexuality.
This is not a 'coming out' song (not meaning to diss the 'right on' politically correct mob), but a protest song against the restrictive and exploitative contracts record companies hold fledgling artists to. This was all about George's battle with Sony music (and is why he didn't appear in the video - to stop them taking even further ownership of his work and likeness).
What is the RYTHEM
this song's meaning is he was fine puttin on a front...but he had to come outta the closet & since he did he feels better!!!...
hi wat up
Man there are some stupid people in the world. Der - he's gay - if you were awake for the eighties and Wham that was pretty obvious. But the lyrics mean whatever the hell you want them to. The song is about not doing or being what everybody else wants or expects. It's about finally just being your own own man. It's about George acknowledging the past good and bad, and putting it behind him to make his own future. This is an almost universally generic sentiment.
And to the dumbass redneck religious-zealot haters. Grow up - the Bible is a work of fiction.
gnda
In music the most important should be impression as well as the music itself. This song has it. As to the artist, these are the tastes and the tastes:). Personally I do not have nothing to George . regards.
Is this a song about him coming out? Who knows? Freedom from holding his sexuality in? Who knows except him? Do I agree with some things he's done? No. Is it an awesome song? Yes. I just learn to separate the talent from person. That simple. And a talented musician he is.

i very like this song
I also think that sometimes the clothes not make the man- cool lyrics... :)isn't it? ;P
George Michael sinned against the Holy Spirit so the Holy Spirit give him up to his own crimes and in his million dollar conceited pride he now calls it freedom he will soon confess just like the fallen angel lucifer that he knowingly willfully lied and that he will soon be blotted out of existence, just like his father lucifer. The valley of siddim used to be like the garden of eden for beauty it was where sodom ,gomorrah, admah, zeboim and zoar used to be. It is now the location of " The Dead Sea" . They provoked the Son of God unto anger nothing lives there it is a geographical warning to all people living- BEWARE! Why do you think it's called The Sea Of The Dead! So go ahead and mock. The same angels Jesus sent to destroy that valley are on this earth and in this country and you cannot stop them and they are going to destroy they mocked Lots warning to escape to flee the valley right before the valley was wiped out,you are doing the same thing, you had better stop.
Great song by a sick man who is obviously crying out for help

oh hell no! jehova's witnesses identifyed...
Freedome definetely refers here in this context for coming out of the closet
Uh... it's called the Dead Sea because of it's salinity, you knucklehead. So much salt that it's difficult for any animals to survive in it.
All religious rhetoric aside it's got a powerful message, and this guy is a talented songwriter.
I'm an old fart from the rock & roll era when lyrics were, and had to be understandable and clever; like after the "do wop" phase in the 50's. So I've read most all of the comments here and I can't find one person that actually "gets it" as in what the dude was saying when he penned it. Surely someone here remembers why he wrote it which in my opinion makes it such a classic. I never liked this dude, hated him worst than disco, but this is a great tune. And NO Sinha and others this song has absolutely nothing to do with George Michael coming out of the closet nor does it have anything to do with religion. So, next
I read somewhere that this song was about telling his record company he was gay and hoping they wouldn't end his contract. Brilliant song whatever it means to people.
George is such a talented individual! I grew up in the 80's and still listen to his music all the time. It never gets old. This guy is pure Genius!!!!!
well i like the song.the video, and the models.
So how long have you all been in the, closet??? Lol
I felt it was about the USA recording industry and control - but he still preformed in other countries but not so much in the USA
Oh dear Mark the bible thumper why are you looking up the lyrics to this song? I think you are going to burn in hell now LOL.
I'm a Christian. This song is about the exploitive music industry.
