In The Mood Lyrics

Artist: Glenn Miller
Album: In The Mood

In the Mood
Glenn Miller (#1 in 1940)
- words by Andy Razaf, music by Joe Garland
- charted by Glenn Miller at #1 in 1940 and again at #20 in 1943
- also charted at #16 by Johnny Maddox in 1953
- as recorded by The Andrews Sisters

Who's the lovin' daddy with the beautiful eyes
What a pair o' lips, I'd like to try 'em for size
I'll just tell him, "Baby, won't you swing it with me"
Hope he tells me maybe, what a wing it will be
So, I said politely "Darlin' may I intrude"
He said "Don't keep me waitin' when I'm in the mood"

First I held him lightly and we started to dance
Then I held him tightly what a dreamy romance
And I said "Hey, baby, it's a quarter to three
There's a mess of moonlight, won't-cha share it with me"
"Well" he answered "Baby, don't-cha know that it's rude
To keep my two lips waitin' when they're in the mood"

In the mood, that's what he told me
In the mood, and when he told me
In the mood, my heart was skippin'
It didn't take me long to say "I'm in the mood now"

In the mood for all his kissin'
In the mood his crazy lovin'
In the mood what I was missin'
It didn't take me long to say "I'm in the mood now"

So, I said politely "Darlin' may I intrude"
He said "Don't keep me waitin' when I'm in the mood"

"Well" he answered "Baby, don't-cha know that it's rude
To keep my two lips waitin' when they're in the mood"

Who's the lovin' daddy with the beautiful eyes
What a pair o' lips, I'd like to try 'em for size
I'll just tell him, "Baby, won't you swing it with me"
Hope he tells me maybe, what a wing it will be
So, I said politely "Darlin' may I intrude"
He said "Don't keep me waitin' when I'm in the mood"

First I held him lightly and we started to dance
Then I held him tightly what a dreamy romance
And I said "Hey, baby, it's a quarter to three
It's a mess of moonlight, won't-cha share it with me"
"Well" he answered "Baby, don't-cha know that it's rude
To keep my two lips waitin' when they're in the mood"

So we totally played this song in jazz band, and I definitely didn't realize that there were lyrics to it... Even though I probably should've. Now I can sing words to it instead of just, "Bah bah dee, mm doo dah, bee da doo, mm boo daaahhh!!!!"
by Sax playah on 2/18/2009 8:26pm
only if the sax notes were there.

Yeah, Old Bob! My mom, who is 85, sings it this way.."Mr. Whatcha Callit whatcha doin' tonight, Hope you're in the mood because I'm feelin' just right,
How's about a corner with a table for two,
Where the music's mellow in some gay rendevouz,
There's no chance romancin' with a blue attitude,
Ya gotta do some dancin' to get in the mood."
Where did she get these lyrics--I can't find them anywhere!? Are these the original lyrics, as Bob suggests?

I was a freshman in High School when I first heard this song, and I listened to it again this morning when I walked my dog. Great music!

A few people have mentioned a different set of lyrics for the song (which were also the ones I was actually looking for when I came here, the lyrcs that begin with 'mister whatchacallum'.) It seems the other lyrics people are remembering are the Andrew Sisters' version of the song. Perhaps these lyrics are the original lyrics?

The lyrics that Old Bob mentioned are from the Andrews Sisters version. I think that these are the origional lyrics.

I've been listening to Glen Miller since 1958. His home town in Iowa has a festival each year...Clarinda Iowa I don't know if I spelled it correctly. Great week of Miller each year.
