Enjoy Yourself Lyrics

Artist: Guy Lombardo
Album: Enjoy Yourself

(NOTE: Vocal by Kenny Gardner & the Lombardo Trio)

You work and work for years and years, you're always on the go
You never take a minute off, too busy makin' dough
Someday, you say, you'll have your fun, when you're a millionaire
Imagine all the fun you'll have in your old rockin' chair

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

You're gonna take that ocean trip, no matter, come what may
You've got your reservations made, but you just can't get away
Next year for sure, you'll see the world, you'll really get around
But how far can you travel when you're six feet underground?

Your heart of hearts, your dream of dreams, your ravishing brunette
She's left you and she's now become somebody else's pet
Lay down that gun, don't try, my friend, to reach the great beyond
You'll have more fun by reaching for a redhead or a blonde

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as a wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think

This is my favorite song! My grandfatehr has lived his life by this song - well at least the chorus - and I aim to do the same, even in these hard financial times!!!

You never go to nightclubs, and you just don't care to dance
you don't have time for silly things like moonlight and romance,
you only think of dollar bills tied neatly in a stack,
but when you kiss a dollar bill it doesn't kiss you back.
Chorus Repeat

I suddenly remembered this song today, what a wonderful reminder of how you should live your life, especially if you are a baby boomer, like I am.

I used to sing this song with my late sister and play it on the harmonica too, in the 50's. Beautiful song, remembered it, when I heard it yesterday featured in Wooden Allen's movie Everyone says I love you.
Thanks for the missing verse.

My uncle was a great Lombardo fan. ANd I learned to be. Kenny Gardner was Guy Lombardo's brother-in-law. I first heard this in the early 1960s. Loved it then - love it even more today.

Heard this song for the first time on the last episode of House. Great song and I wouldn't mind it being my new theme!!
by Doc on 5/21/2012 9:07pm
Great lyrics. I have always lived my Iife that way. Spend it while you can and with the people you want.
by Gary on 5/21/2012 9:23pm
The last song on 'House' should get more people looking for this.
by Doc House... on 5/21/2012 9:56pm
"House" ended its run with this song. Very appropriate.
by Brenda on 5/22/2012 12:59am
This song was used at the end of House's final chapter. A wonderful way to end the series. I will apply it to my life. "The years go by, as quickly as a wink."
by Bob - Boomer on 5/22/2012 6:08am
Saw last House. Hadn't heard that song in decades. Got me thinking. With a brother & cousin dying of cancer - it's time to stop working and do what I've been putting off.
by cocomo on 5/22/2012 9:39am
just heard the song for the first time. but it has always been in my heart. i have always told people enjoy yourself for you don't know what tomorrow will bring. someone should remake this song and everyone should live by it. live for today for there may not be a tomorrow.
by Keith on 5/22/2012 8:50pm
An appropriate last message from House. Cf. to Horace "... carpe diem, quam minime credula posterno." G. House would not need a translation.
by Peggy on 5/23/2012 7:17pm
Agree with Bob...not heard these lyrics in decades...good words to live by.
by EILEEN on 5/24/2012 12:31pm
Last episode of House did indeed get me lyric looking. Lost my Father on September 24 2011, the same day the rest of my family was called to Sunnybrook Hospital to hear my beautiful brother was not going to wake from the coma. He was assaulted in his driveway by drunken neighbours. He managed to eventually wake but succumbed to his injuries on January 14 2012. This song says it all.
by Steve M (Falcon) on 5/25/2012 3:19pm
"Amber" sings the Anne Dudek cover of the song in Season 5, Episode 23, "Under My Skin", of House MD and the Louis Prima version is played at the end of the series finale episode, "Everybody Dies".
by sheree 5/30/12 on 5/30/2012 11:35pm

I gave my retirement notice on a Monday morning and then heard the song on house that evening. Hadn't heard it in years. I thought "how appropriate".
by Unknown on 6/14/2012 2:32pm
Enjoy yourself, Enjoy yourself, don't be such a downer folks
by Jim on 7/12/2012 6:59am
Eileen...how terrible. I hope your father's killers are brought to swift justice. I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. I'm glad the song brings you some comfort. I assume you're British (spelling of "neighbours"), but know that a Yank is sending you kind thoughts today.
by Eddie Browning on 8/6/2012 9:46pm
Heard it on House.Brought back old memories.Sang it all day today....Eddie
by Rachel Christabell on 10/1/2012 3:49pm
Beautiful song, brightens your day.
by Adam Bomb 1701 on 10/22/2012 7:32pm
This song was actually used twice in "House". The character of Amber sand the song to House in the fifth season episode "Under My Skin" when House was hallucinating her. The second time was in the last episode, "Everybody Dies."
by BearnHeart on 12/22/2012 1:32pm
Ingenious lyrics. Earwig. I love it with a faster melody and more energy - more like a drinking song.
by Sheila on 1/13/2013 11:10pm
Jools holland performs a great version which has plenty of energy.
by Longjohn9 on 7/9/2013 4:06am
I first heard this sung by a punk chick in the 80's. Quite a cute association with this charming song.

"Tomorrow is promised to no one". Love this song its so true. Worked 65 hrs/wk for 18 years just retired at 44. Now its time for me to enjoy myself!
by Dolores on 9/29/2013 5:23am
My oldest sister sings this to me as a Reminder it's time to retire and enjoy what time is left. There is a lot of truth to the lyrics.
by Marion Tarry on 10/5/2013 6:34am
I have chosen this song to be played as everyone leaves my funeral. No long faces. My other tunes are 'Days' by the Kinks and 'The great gig in the sky' Pink Floyd. My poem is 'Dust if you must'
by Rosie on 10/21/2013 4:56pm
My family sang this song many times when I was a child and it was funny but as I am in my 60's the words have more true meaning and I do remember all the verses.

What is the verse Mary Wilson of the Supremes is singing on their "Live at the Copa" recording? It starts, "You worry when the weather's cold. You worry when it's hot. You worry when you're doing well. You worry when you're not....." If you know, please "hit me up on" cvccounseling@gmail.com
by For CVC on 3/23/2014 1:11am
...

You worry when the weather's cold. You worry when it's hot.
You worry when you're doing well. You worry when you're not
It's worry, worry, all of the time, you don't know how to laugh,
the'll think of something funny when they write you're epitaph.
