The connections between you and other people, the barriers that sever them, and the conflict that creates. The song describes a fantasy situation where you can escape all that and just enjoy being with the people you used to spend time with but now don't - sometimes for reasons that you create in your own head (cast off the ego scars, and let's go hit the bars).
