This Is Worth Fighting For Lyrics
Artist: Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra
THIS IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR
Jimmy Dorsey
I saw a peaceful old valley
With a carpet of corn for a floor
And I heard a voice within me whisper
This is worth fighting for,
I saw a little old cabin
and the river that flowed by the door
And I heard a voice within me whisper,
This is worth fighting for.
Didn't I build that cabin?
Didn't I plant that corn?
Didn't my folks before me
Fight for this country before I was born?
I gathered my loved ones around me
And I gazed at each face I adore
Then I heard that voice within me thunder,
This is worth fighting for

Comments/Interpretations
those were the days when everyone loved this country and over 10 million men and women went into the service to fight for it. It is discraceful that our political representitives and part of the media are rooting for our defeat for political power
I remember this song from when I was a child and there were three of my cousins who were in the service. My grandmother sang this song many times to keep her spirits up, believing that they would all come home safely. Thank God, they did.
One of my favorite songs. For many years I sang this at Veteran's events It never failed to bring tears to to eyes.
Our high school Glee Club sang this back in the 40's. We had brothers in the service and it brought comfort to our family. I have played it many times but I am afraid it is going to be lost to us, as few people remember it any more. I wish there were some way to bring it back again.
I remember this song while a child growing up in the Sandhills of Nebraska. I wish a young singer would record it the way is was sung back in the 1940s. This country IS worth fighting for. I wish our political representatives would put on a uniform and fight for this country before trying to govern it.
Richerd E. Bartlett and I sang this one in the shower at Westover AFB . He died in a B-24 in November of '43 on the Emden mission .
Gotta wonder how traitors like Jane Fonda would have fared in those days. That ________ got off scott free and continued using this country to continue enriching herself. Outrageous!
I love to teach the kids at our elementary school these grand patriotic songs from past wars; the adults who listen to them sing on Veteran's Day love hearing these great and inspiring songs from their memories too. Don't worry, there are many people in public and private schools who also wish to keep these wonderful songs alive!
