Back Home Again Lyrics

Artist: John Denver
Album: Back Home Again

There's a storm across the valley, clouds are rollin' in
the afternoon is heavy on your shoulders.
There's a truck out on the four lane, a mile or more away
the whinin' of his wheels just makes it colder.

He's an hour away from ridin' on your prayers up in the sky
and ten days on the road are barely gone.
There's a fire softly burning; supper's on the stove
but it's the light in your eyes that makes him warm.

Chorus:
Hey, it's good to be back home again
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long lost friend
Yes, 'n, hey it's good to be back home again

There's all the news to tell him: how's you spend your time?
And what's the latest thing the neighbors say
and your mother called last friday; "Sunshine" made her cry
and you felt the baby move just yesterday.

Chorus

Bridge:
And oh, the time that I can lay this tired old body down
and feel your fingers feather soft up-on me
the kisses that I live for, the love that lights my way
the happiness that livin' with you brings me.

It's the sweetest thing I know of, just spending time with you
it's the little things that make a house a home.
Like a fire softly burning and supper on the stove.
And the light in your eyes that makes me warm.

I sang this song for my grandmother , now I sing it for my Dad. We have no printer so I've just copied them long hand for my dad' song book of favorites. He plays mandolin/I play guitar. I've written songs for years, but having just copied these lyrics ... I felt if just for a moment the feelings of a songwriter extrodinaire. Simple yet textured and layered with colors and subtle nuances.May your talent bless all who hear your songs.

One of my all time favourites, this song is so beautiful it brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. I've heard it covered by other people but only John has played my heart strings.

There is no wonder why this song was voted as the Country Music Association's "Song Of The Year" Award winner for 1975. There are not many songs with more meaning. Except, of course, other songs by John Denver! (Yes, there are a few other songs by other artists with great meaning; just that those artists don't consistently write or sing meaningful songs. So many are meant to be commercially successful instead of lyrically important.)

'It's the sweetest thing I know of, just spending time with you'. That is how I feel everytime I come back home to be with my family. What a great song!

I've heard this song at least 500 times and never without getting a lump in my throat. It pairs with an epilogue on a TV show I heard not too long ago that said roughly "Family is refuge in a cold, dark world".

love this song. "Sunshine" was a made-for-television sad movie from that time.
