Home Grown Tomatoes Lyrics

Artist: John Denver
Album: Country Roads-Very Best Of John (1998)

This song appears on two albums, and was first released on the Higher Ground album, and has also been released on The Gift You Are and The John Denver Collection - Take Me Home, Country Roads albums.

There aint nothin in the world that I like better
Than bacon n lettuce n homegrown tomatoes
Up in the mornin, out in the garden
Get you a ripe one, dont pick a hard 'un
Plant 'em in the spring, eat em in the summer
All winter without em is a culinary bummer
I forget all about the sweatin and the diggin
Every time I go out and pick me a big un

Home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes
What would life be like without homegrown tomatoes
Only two things that money cant buy
That's true love and home grown tomatoes

You can go out to eat an thats for sure
But theres nothin a homegrown tomatoe wont cure
Put em in a salad, put em in a stew
You can make your own tomatoe juice
You can eat em with eggs, eat em with gravy
You can eat em with beans, pinto or navy
Put 'em on the side, put em in the middle
Home grown tomatoes on a hot cake griddle

Home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes
What would life be like without homegrown tomatoes
Only two things that money cant buy
That's true love and home grown tomatoes

If Is to change this life I lead
You could call me Johnny Tomatoe Seed
Cause I know what this country needs
Home grown tomatoes in every yard you see
When I die dont bury me
In a box in a cold dark cemetary
Out in the garden would be much better
Cause I could be pushin up a home grown tomatoe

Home grown tomatoes, home grown tomatoes
What would life be like without homegrown tomatoes
Only two things that money cant buy
That's true love and home grown tomatoes

Me and my dad were listening to John Denver in the car on our way to the library, I ask my dad "How old is he now?" He said; "He's dead" So now we're here in the library looking him up on how he died. He died at the age of 53.One of my favorite song of his is Home grown tamatos. I just don't know something- theres this myth thats saying he sang at Michel Jacksons funeral but John Denver died in 1997. So now I have everything figured out. I looked up on how he died but it just said he died.So im just glad im giving out this iformation to people who don't know about him.

I believe that the lyrics are by Guy clark. John Denver crashed an experimental plane.
by John Poindexter on 9/5/2010 3:54pm
Yes, John died while flying one of his experimental planes. It crashed in the pacific and he was not able to survive.

The world lost a great man and songwriter that day.
