Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today
Ill be a dandy, and Ill be a rover
Youll know who I am by the songs that I sing
Ill feast at your table, Ill sleep in your clover
Who cares what the morrow shall bring
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today
I cant be contented with yesterdays glory
I cant live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
Ill laugh and Ill cry and Ill sing
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today
Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
Ill taste your strawberries, Ill drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, Today

Comments/Interpretations
This was the song that kept my mother going when she spent over a year in Hospital with a Broken Back.
I cant be contented with yesterdays glory
I cant live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing
Words to live by.
Time is short. Make the most of every day with loved ones.
My mother used to sing this to me when I was a baby and I in turn have sung it to my 3 children. It is so important to live for today and let tomorrow take care of itself.
Me and my wife loved this one...she died of breast cancer only a short time after we were married but the words are good to take to heart in more ways than one.
"Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves."
-- James Matthew Barrie

Dear friend, I am from Brazil. I love JD's songs. But I've faced great dificulties at finding a song I heard just once. It speaks of a crystal. I can't remember exactly its lyrics, but it is aproximately this:
"... for a moment we were (are?) just like children (...) Crystal was the water, in crystal was the sand (sun?) (...) like water running on and running down.." (Something that).
Do u get it? If so, could send me it? I'd be so grateful! Have my embrace, dear friend. Thanks.

My Papa used to sing me this song when i was younger. This was my lullaby. I used to lay my head on his arm then he'll sing me this song while brushing my hair. I will forever be grateful to my papa who have shown me much love, support and care. Much have been said and done in the past and up to the present yet my love for you Papa will always remain the same. I love you and I miss you so much.
When I first heard this song I loved it, this is my first favorite song, the second was toledo ohio, third was grandma's feathered bed.

Yesterday had been passed, it was no more use. Tomorrow is not yet come, we do not even know it will come.
Today is what we have, keep and use it as worth as we can.

I learned it from a student, Miss Virginia Rideout who played guitar and sang in a student music group circa 1965, at Sacramento City College.
Used to sing this at girl scout camp. John Dever sang it the first time I saw him in concert. Wonderful and always comforting.
Hoozemberg,
I think the song you are asking about is called CALYPSO. It is about a ship that sailed on the "Crystal Clear Ocean."
This song teaches the wisdom of the ages. Like the Eleanor Roosevelt quote:
"Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift
That is why we call it the present"
I learned the song when I was in the 6th grade with the husband of my teacher who taught the song for the whole class that is way back 1966.

I remember my family first sang this song on camping trips around the fire at night. Later on, my brother Cliff and I started singing this song with a nice harmony joined with our other 2 brothers and our sister Liz, and now over the years,it has become a song we sung at our weddings and the weddings of our nieces, nephews and soon for my daughter. Truly a beautiful piece.
It was our song we sung during our Elementary Graduation (Batch 92-Rizal Elementary School) in Sorsogon City-my hometown. It reminds me my grades school memories and now, I am always singing this to my little baby-Star as my baby’s lullaby. I forgot the complete lyrics but I never forget the rhymes that make me feel good and comfort when I sing it. I love this unforgettable song we had.
We sang this song at camp Ernst in Kentucky when I was a valley girl

I was in High school in the 1970s when I learned to play this song on the guitar. It was like the beautiful anthem that we used to play and sing with my friends. Great, fond memories. Am still playing and singing it these days.
This song came back into my mind after a night's considerations about what to read or sing in front of my leadership group, I sang this in Choir in the 70:s. A beautiful melody that speaks through the ages beautifully. I hadn't sung it or heard it in 40+ years. but my presence remembered it.
This is the song I sang to all my grandchildren. They would stop crying and look directly in my face, stop crying and eventually fall asleep before I did.
One day, as I passed thru a bar with a German style, I happened to hear the song of John Denver. Under the background of snow, with the rain guard in purple, cream colored facade and accompanied by John's song, so beautiful! I can't go away but stopping for it! Tonight, as I recall that moment, I then enjoy it by my music player! Indeed, we got to cherish today, the gift given by God, that is present, i.e. today! Though John has left us behind for years, but he is still between us!
I first heard this song when I was in the 6th grade. That was about 57 years ago. At that time it was sung by the New Christie Minstrels and it was a beautiful rendition. But John Denvers is no less beautiful simply because the words and the content speak as a Universal message to the necessity to live in the present.
