Letters From Home Lyrics
Artist: John Michael Montgomery
My Dear Son, it is almost June,
I hope this letter catches up to you, and finds you well.
Its been dry but they’re calling for rain,
And everything's the same ol’ same in Johnsonville.
Your stubborn 'ol Daddy ain’t said too much,
But I’m sure you know he sends his love,
And she goes on,
In a letter from home.
I hold it up and show my buddies,
Like we ain’t scared and our boots ain’t muddy, and they all laugh,
Like there’s something funny bout’ the way I talk,
When I say: "Mama sends her best y’all."
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
Waiting on letters from home.
My Dearest Love, its almost dawn.
I’ve been lying here all night long wondering where you might be.
I saw your Mama and I showed her the ring.
Man on the television said something so I couldn’t sleep.
But I’ll be all right, I’m just missing you.
An' this is me kissing you:
XX’s and OO’s,
In a letter from home.
I hold it up and show my buddies,
Like we ain’t scared and our boots ain’t muddy, and they all laugh,
'Cause she calls me "Honey", but they take it hard,
'Cause I don’t read the good parts.
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
Waiting on letters from home.
Dear Son, I know I ain’t written,
But sittin' here tonight, alone in the kitchen, it occurs to me,
I might not have said, so I’ll say it now:
Son, you make me proud.
I hold it up and show my buddies,
Like we ain’t scared and our boots ain’t muddy, but no one laughs,
'Cause there ain’t nothing funny when a soldier cries.
An' I just wipe me eyes.
I fold it up an' put it in my shirt,
Pick up my gun an' get back to work.
An' it keeps me driving me on,
Waiting on letters from home.

this song makes me cry but it is an awesome song
I am german. So maybe you will forgive me for writing my thoughts down. I don't understand all this proud in going to war and supporting the warriors. Why are they so proud to go fight? Shouldn't they be so sad for killing all those innocent people?
Why are the mums proud? Are they proud their son has killed once again ten people? Or is it just this pride you got for your country? I know when it comes to war and Hitler, I am ashamed. I dislike Hitler so much, I can't even begin to describe it...it is war. is is death. all those people. how can one be proud of doing this? just how?
American Soldiers are proud to go fight because they fight not to conquer other countries and exterminate "inferior" people (like the Nazis under Hitler did). Rather we go to war to defend our Constitution and the people of our country. Not every one agrees with the current conflict we are in, but the men on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan think they are doing the right thing, and contrary to what the media reports, many people in those countries appreciate our military's eradication of their oppressive governments. Innocent people die in every conflict, it's unavoidable, but with the current rules of engagement for American forces it is very rare for civilians to get caught in the crossfire. War is inevitable, it is part of the human condition, and America's Warriors take pride in the fact that they are sparing their loved ones from going through the same thing that families all across Europe went through during the first half of the 20th Century.
I have a nephew that is going to be leaving to Iraq. And, I just want him to know that I love him and miss already. And to hold on to this letter. And always remember that am so proud of him. For all that he is doing for us and our country. Love your aunt D
Why are they proud?????????? Are you kidding me!!!!
What parent or family member would not be proud of one who is willing to risk and sometimes give their life to allow others to enjoy something we as Americans have taken for granted for far too long-FREEDOM.
I am DAMN proud of each and everyone of our soldiers and thank God for them every day.
