They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
and a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
They took all the trees
And put them in a tree museum
And they charged all the people
A dollar and a half to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And they put up a parking lot
Hey farmer farmer
Put away that D.D.T. now
Give me spots on my apples
But leave me the birds and the bees
Please!
Dont it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
Late last night
I heard the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi
Took away my old man
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Comments/Interpretations
this is such a sad song. It is very true. people like destroying our land. I cant belive they cant see what theyre doing.
awesome lyrics
I thought that guy said you put up a f***ing lie???????but its put up a parking lot!!!
this lyric really fascinated..........
I told Gerald Pedro that Joni wrote the song I was right!
I thought he sang "big yellow taxi took my girl away" hmmm
Joni didn't write it, she covered it.
Another clueless hippie song.. I'm beginning to wonder if people look out the windows of planes while air traveling. All you see is trees! Trees are everywhere and there renewable.. get over yourselves.
i love this song and for a long time i've been trying to figure out what the title is, as well as what the rest of the song is
Joni did write it, who the fuck did you think wrote it?
Also, dude seriously get a grip. Trees take hundreds of years to grow and mature into things of natural beauty, they clean the air and add colour to the landscape.
When all the trees are gone, the rivers are dry, the air is filthy and the planet is an ugly uninhabitable mess, no one will be saying "it was worth it for the money" once it's gone it's gone. Nature isn't man made.
Fuckin-A ross
