Silent Running Lyrics
Artist: Mike & The Mechanics
Take the children and yourself
And hide out in the cellar
By now the fighting will be close at hand
Don't believe the church and state
And everything they tell you
Believe in me, I'm with the high command
Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
There's a gun and ammunition
Just inside the doorway
Use it only in emergency
Better you should pray to God
The Father and the Spirit
Will guide you and protect from up here
Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
Swear allegiance to the flag
Whatever flag they offer
Never hint at what you really feel
Teach the children quietly
For some day sons and daughters
Will rise up and fight while we stood still
Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
Can you hear me, can you hear me running?
Can you hear me running, can you hear me calling you?
Can you hear me running (can you hear me calling you?)
(Can you hear me) hear me calling you?
(Can you hear me running) hear me running babe?
(Can you hear me running) hear me running?
Calling you, calling you

Comments/Interpretations
truly a telling song before it's time. today is 11.25.2008, weeks after Obama was (s)elected. today it was announced GDP down -0.5% amid bankruptcies declared by leading banking institutions. We are close to a world collapse. Gas prices will be kept low to bring down Arab nations/raise up Asian nations. The only segment of retail that is growing in U.S. are unprecedented guns and ammo sales.
love song i believe
i believe this song is prophetic; mentioning the Trinity is a little telling. this song has been running in my mind (unfortunately) lately. we are in for some rough times - wrath; get saved; believe in Christ.
Obviously no one's noticed that this song was written during the REAGAN administration. Its sentiments were much more apropos to the G.W. Bush administration than to the Obama administration.
I want to add this to my class lectures and handouts on American Protest Literature. Does anyone know who to get in touch with for permissions for academic use?

I love this song so much!
The 80's were the best music time. The songs had great melodies and not like the songs from nowadays.
Read Revelation; the end chapter of the Holy Bible, then listen to the lyrics of this song.....
"Better you should pray to God.
The Father and the Spirit; will guide you and protect you from 'up here'
Ever thought about what that means?
Sounds like a warning of the authoritarian police state we are rapidly sliding into unless we quit praying and stand and fight them.
A protest song written in the Reagan era and somehow... OBAMA! Tell me, how many songs of protest were ever written by American conservatives that weren't just hate music? Conservatives also seem to think they have the monopoly on religious beliefs and a hotline to god. Read up on history, the number of wars fought where both sides were convinced god was on their side has been... all of them. Where was god for the losers, for the enslaved, for the murdered, raped, and pillaged? Punished by him? Have babies and kids been killed because they've wronged god?
This is why religion is a fool's gambit.
