For Pete's Sake Lyrics
Artist: Monkees (Buy Monkees CDs)
Album: Headquarters
By Peter Tork and Joseph Richards
Love is understanding,
Don't you know that this is true.
Love is understanding,
It's in everything we do.
In this generation,
In this lovin' time,
In this generation,
We will make the world shine.
We were born to love one another
This is something we all need.
We were born to love one another
We must be what we're goin' to be
And what we have to be is free.
In this generation,
In this lovin' time,
In this generation,
We will make the world shine.
We were born to love one another
This is something we all need.
We were born to love one another
We must be what we're goin' to be
And what we have to be is free.
Love is undertanding, we gotta be free
Love is undertanding, we gotta be free
[Repeat and adlib]

Comments/Interpretations
One of the most infectious songs I've ever heard. And I loved the Monkees show and their songs. This song is SO groovy!
I love this song. It was always played at the end of the show when the credits ran.
For Pete's Sake was a true love and peace song of the 60's.
I instantly fell in love with this song <3 <3 <3 It makes my heart happy <3 The Monkees rocked, and they still rock it out today!
I have always loved this song and just recently looked it up to see what it was called due to seeing an old episode of the Monkies. I think that Mickey Dolenz had such a distinctive voice. He should've had a bigger solo career.
Who screwed up the revolution of love, peace and freedom this great tune speaks of? Has anyone heard a song recently referring to any of the above? Just the memories are left.....
