Beloved Wife Lyrics
Artist: Natalie Merchant
You were the love
for certain of my life
you were simply my beloved wife
I don't know for certain
how I'll live my life
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife
I can't believe
I've lost the very best of me
you were the love
for certain of my life
you were simply my beloved wife
I don't know for certain
how I'll live my life
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife
I can't believe
I've lost the very best of me
you were the love
for certain of my life
for 50 years simply my beloved wife
with another love I'll never lye again
it's you I can't deny
it's you I can't defy
a depth so deep
into my grief
without my beloved soul
I renounce my life
as my right
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife
my beloved wife
my love is gone she suffered long
in hours of pain
my love is gone
now my suffering begins
my love is gone
would it be wrong if I should
surrender all the joy in my life
go with her tonight?
my love is gone she suffered long
in hours of pain
my love is gone
would it be wrong if I should
just turn my face away from the light
go with her tonight?

Comments/Interpretations
A sad song indeed, but it is what we are to face at some point in our lives.
The most beautiful song ever. I have loved this album since I was 11, and will continue to!
This song makes me cry. I think of my grandfather and grandmother.
When "I renounce my life" builds into the ride cymbal, it's just about the best moment on the album. That is, until the first refrain of "Seven Years," maybe.
Makes you fell in love with your wife again.
I forever more will dedicate this song to my MUM from my DAD. Rest In Peace MUM, we will always love you...
For certain to renounce my life will be easy without my wife. It is too hard to listen to this song. I often must pass it over.
I love this song n ever will i dnt wanna ever face that
This song truly reflects the grieving at the loss of a long loved wife. It seems impossible to go on without your beloved partner, but somehow, we mostly do.
This is one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard (and I'm pretty old!). Natalie is magic and I love how she inspires me to learn more about poetry and literature. I swear I'll never cry again, but this song has me hanging by a thread to that promise.
