Album: Tigerlily
Well, I've walked these streets
A virtual stage, it seemed to me
Makeup on their faces
Actors took their places next to me
Well, I've walked these streets
In a carnival, of sights to see
All the cheap thrill seekers vendors and the dealers
They crowded around me
1-Have I been blind have I been lost
Inside myself and my own mind
Hypnotized, mesmerized by what my eyes have seen?
Well, I've walked these streets
In a spectacle of wealth and poverty
In the diamond markets the scarlet welcome carpet
That they just rolled out for me
And I've walked these streets
In the madhouse asylum they can be
Where a wild-eyed misfit prophet
On a traffic island stopped and he raved of saving me
(rpt 1)
Have I been blind, have I been lost
Have I been blind, have I been mean
Have I been strong
Hypnotized, mesmerized by what my eyes have seen
In that great street carnival, in that carnival?

Aileen Wuornos favorite song! :D
My fav song too...does not make me a seriel killer...poor Aileen.....screwed over by too many bad people....a mentally ill person she was....and was touched by this awesome song...Merchant gave permission for the song to be played whilst Wournos' ashes were spread by her favourite tree
I must admit the song takes on a whole new perspective knowing she asked for it to be played at her funeral which means it meant a lot to her. It almost gets you inside Aileen's head. I never really thought of it as a sad song. But now it seems almost heartbreaking.
Yeah this song was inspired by the late, great, River Phoenix. Her song "River" was about him also..
sometimes i think music is prophetic, divinely inspired, and it fits Aileen so perfectly.
who knows what really happened. God knows.
She wasn't mentally ill to begin with, just after she was imprisoned I believe.
This Song Soothes. It is very poetic and essentually just gives you are good feeling.
Just watched "Aileen Life And Death Of A Serial Killer." She was a mentally ill woman from the very beginning. Her own murder says a lot about our society.
She was judged mentally fit. She wasn't crazy at all. She was just sick of the world.
Whether she was mental or sane, whether it was self defense in her mind or cold-blooded killings of convenience, the only thing that stands true is that no one she should have been able to trust saved her from ending up this way. EVERY DAY people fall through the cracks and end up in darkness. They may say that the death penalty is no deterrent for criminals, and that the prisons are full, but who's collecting statistics on how many people are saved by having the love, acceptance and guidance of those closest to them? Someone needs your help NOW. It's OUR fault if any one of us fails.
This is why we must support mothers and fathers with raising children, to prevent the tragedy of Aileen W...
Since when do you need permission from singer/songwriters to play songs at weddings and funerals?
Song for think, very nice.
Rest In Peace Aileen. You didn't stand a chance at sanity or a good life from your early beginning. To be ostracized very early on (even at your birth)you survived the only way you knew how. And why wouldn't you have been hurt and angry?!!!! Only God knows "why" some souls get a real shitty sentence here on Earth.
This is the song I too have requested for my farewell -these lyrics and music sum up so many lost souls lives.
You people are messed up in the head. Aileen Wuornos was a psychotic pathological paranoid killer. She would have killed each and every one of you for less than $100. Wake up. And you don't need permission from a recording artist to play their music at your wake you idiot.
I always loved all of NM songs, but when I watched the story on Alieen W. I must admit, she was mentally insane, but no telling what kinds of thoughts went through her mind...living with a grandfather you call dad and know that he raped you? I wonder if that was the truth or did she really know the truth??? The song fits...in a crazy way.
The one thing I think everyone missed and made the hair on the back of my neck stand straight up is the ending. You hear traffic noises and then a man, he sounds like a black man say "He was with her last night....right before the murder"
talk about eery
This is a good song. It does take u back to the moment she was waiting for her death. It is like we were there and could relate.too her feelings. I will say she knew she did wrong. She was insane, but I can't say before or after prison. What shame?
This song is important. Understand that this is the world in which we live. Pay attention and capture the essence of it. Then decide what your role in this life will be. This world offers you anything and everything. Your choice. Pick who you want to be.Oh yeah, you might want to check out boomersvilleusa.com for the answers to to many of the questions regarding this world.
OK that's why I looked up these lyrics too, cuz I been singing "most " of them for what 15 years now. But I just.got thru watchin life &death of Aileen and God bless u to figure out that shyt on the next plane ( or mothership) girl cuz u done effed this one beyond repair. And I gotta say this sing does take on a whole new meaning when I try to think of what Aileen might mean by them but at the same time I have to believe that whatever I can come.up with is only scratching the surface of what her eyes have seen.
That murdering conniving lying person who destroyed lives. Who cares about her favorite song
i thought this song was about living and coping drugs in the streets. i never by any means thought this song to be enlightning although it is a beautiful song and one of ny favs.
This is not the complete song, not all the verses are included. This was truncated for the show.
my dad beat the hell out of me for years he was an alcoholic. I turned out just fine.aileen knew exactly what she was doing and had to pay the ultimate price in the end.
Lyrics are WRONG
I submitted a comment yesterday,, disappointed it hasnt been published :(
Mike we are different individuals, we dont have the same stamina. I've been through my nightmares too, and i know how much it takes for me to hold myself together
Just watched the same movie WHAT A KILLER SONG no pun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIP AILEEN
She choose the perfect song, I will always think of her when ever I hear this song. The things she'd seen the things she have been through and endure. Sorry you didn't get the help you needed. And woe be unto those who've neglected you in your early days.
My 18 year old daughter got into a bit of trouble and had to spend some time in the Volusia County Jail. She was there when Aileen was and they had some meaningful conversations. My daughter straightened up after that and credited Aileen for her changes. My daughter went on to nursing school, married, had her children, had her career, had a divorce and fell in love with the one that would murder her, brutally so. I don't know if they were parallel or a perpendicular to one another.
I do know this though, "There but for the Grace of God go I". Who knows who Aileen would have become in a different setting. Who knows who knows who my daughter would have become in a different setting.
