Black Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair Lyrics
Artist: Nina Simone
Black is the color of my true love's hair
His face so soft and wondrous fair
The purest eyes
and the strongest hands
I love the ground on where he stands
I love the ground on where he stands
Black is the color of my true love's hair
Of my true love's hair
Of my true love's hair
Oh I love my lover
and where he goes
yes, I love the ground on where he goes
And still I hope
that the time will come
when he and I will be as one
when he and I will be as one
So black is the color of my true love's hair
Black is the color of my true love's hair
Black is the color of my true love's hair

Comments/Interpretations
Beautiful song.
It`s a perfect song!
i have to sing this. It' really short. confused look.
Yes, beautiful piece. I play this on harp and now I can sing along about the black haired loves I have known. Thanks, Nina!
no good...
It's in my TOP 10 of all times, masterpiece
Je dois chanter cette chanson pour un spectacle sur la ségrégation raciale, c'est une magnifique chanson à une émotion très forte!
Think she did a duet version first which had much more verses made original apart from the Irish folk original.. Her conviction on her more commercial recordings always keeps me in aw. But her original film recordings are worth watching as you see how much her performance connects with her audience... Before the White collar groupies hit her like a plague of bad taste. Nowonder she went a little sour. Love her
there is a mistake, it is :
"...
I love my lover
and WELL HE KNOWS
..."
i love that song its a very irish song
pssssst.... it's Scottish not "very Irish"...just sayin'.
It is lovely, though. Especially Nina Simone's rendition.
Too bad the song (weather the original Scottish version or any covers of it) never mention his/her eye color. I'm doing a male character and I'm making his skin fair and his hair black...I just need the eyes! But I do love this song (I've only the the Celtic Women's version, though)
love you so much nina simone
