Yellow Ledbetter Lyrics
Artist: Pearl Jam
Album: Jeremy
Unsealed
On a porch a letter sat
Then you said i wanna leave it again
Once i saw him
On a beach of weathered sand
And on the sand i wanna leave it again
On a weekend wanna wish it all way
And they called an i said an i want what
i said an i call out again
And the reason oughta leave her calm i know
I said i know what i wear that a box or the bag
Oh yeah can you see them?
Out on the porch
Ah, but they don't wave
I see them
Round the front way, yeah
And i know and i know
I don't wanna stay
make me cry
I see
I don't know there's something else
I wanna drum it all away
An i said
I said i i don't know where there's a box or the bag
Oh yeah can you see them?
Out on the porch
Ah, but they don't wave
I see them
Round the front way, yeah
And i know and i know
I don't wanna stay
I don't wanna stay
I don't wanna stay

Comments/Interpretations
Wonderful song but the lyrics by them self make no cents.
This ranks in my top ten Pearl Jam songs. Hoever I would like to know the source of this song. My husband is ten year older than I am and he says it has to do with one of the older blues singers that I wouldn't remember ( although he can't pick the point in time or the actual name.) Please help if posible. Thank you for your time and attention. Sincerely, Lisa Martin
It's about one of Ed's friend's Brother from Seattle that died in the Gulf War. Ed and this dude were walking around the neighborhood after dude got a "yellow letter" stating that his brother had died. While they were walking...they came upon a porch with people sitting on it with an American flag flying. They stopped to salute it and the people on the porch who disapproved of their appearence looked on them with disdain (hence the "but they don't wave" lyric. It's actually reminescient of the Vietnam Era protest songs.
I don't know whether I'm the Boxer or the Bag.
