Weigh Lyrics
Artist: Phish
Album: Rift
I'd like to cut your head off so I could weigh it, what do ya say?
Five pounds, six, pounds, seven pounds
I'd like to go to your house and gather all your razors and pick all the
little prickly hairs so I can weigh them, what do ya say?
Five pounds, six pounds, seven pounds
I'd like to gather all your friends and squish them all into a small
swimming pool so I can weigh them, what do ya say?
Five pounds, six pounds, seven pounds
Why weigh on a sunny day?
So much to do so why, why weigh?
On a sunny day, why wei-igh-hey?
Why weigh, why weigh?
I'd like to hear my options, so I can weigh them, what do ya say?
Five pounds, six pounds, seven pounds
Why weigh on a sunny day?
So much to do, so why, why weigh?
On a sunny day, why wei-gh-hey?
Why
Oh Why[x11]
Why weigh?

Comments/Interpretations
don't do acid and think about things (weigh) when you have a life that you can live (sunny day).
This guy has some fucked up acid trips!
Yeah Phish is amazing
It's talking about dealers/growers not weighing when they have enough not to worry about $.
Why weigh on a sunny day?
besides, hairs, heads, and buds are all clearly pot references
None of this song has to do with drugs. It's just Phish being goofy, that's what the do.
All of Phish's lyrics have meaning.
Clearly none of you actually understand the true meaning of this song because you are looking at it out of context rather than a piece of the album Rift as a whole. Weigh symbolically brings an episode of comic relief to the night of terror, as the dreamer ponders the absurd notion of beheading his lover so he can weigh her head. His other wish is to "gather all your razors and pick all the little prickly hairs so I can weigh them." It's a Cactus original, so leave it to Gordeaux to create a crazy turn to the album.
True it is a piece of the album rift and must be looked at in the context of that album. however, as true art it must not only have meaning within its context, but it must also have meaning outside of that context so that the song can stand on its own as art. think about it, for example, being played at a show, there the context of the entire album is not going to be in play, therefore your rule about context doesnt always apply. and secondly, the individual listener can apply any meaning to the song they want and must because we can never truly understand what phish intended.
