Hey Sandy Lyrics
Artist: Polaris
Album: Music From The Adventures Of Pete & Pete
Hey smilin' strange
You're lookin' happily deranged
Could you settle to shoot me?
Or have you picked your target yet?
Hey Sandy
Don't you talk back,
Hey Sandy
Four feet away
End of speech, it's the end of the day
We was only funnin'
But guiltily I thought you had it comin'
Hey Sandy
Don't you talk back,
Hey Sandy
Hey Sandy
Don't you talk back,
Hey Sandy
Hey Sandy
Don't you talk back,
Hey Sandy

Comments/Interpretations
this is by far the best theme song for any nickelodeon show. obv.
Totally, ironically, it's about a girl killed at the Kent State Massacre. Such a morbid subject for a song and yet it's responsible for such good childhood memories. Pete & Pete was the best show.
nobody really knows the meaning according to the artist
It's about a girl, Sandy, who was killed in the Kent State Massacre of May 4th.
The shootings occurred when the National Guard tried to bust up some Vietnam protesters or something, and then Sandy, not apart of the protest, was caught up in the shootings.
I think...
i agree with shengagagagaga.....
yah, Pete and Pete is the shit.
i just recently found seasons 1 and 2.
siiiiice me haha.
:)
how could it be the kent state massacre? in the song, sandy is the one that's the shooter. I dont think its about a real person, but a fabricated character that shoots up her school
yeah, i don't think it's about the kent state massacre. they song doesn't have anything in common with the shootings apart from the name sandy. Sandra Schauer was walking across a sidewalk and was caught in the crossfire.
The song is about ballistic missiles used by the US Government.
Omg this takes me back to freakin Kindergarten haha omg I miss this show <33
it's actually "Does your dog bite"
wow u guys are idiots. listen to the commentary on the dvds.
shiiiz is correct, "Does your dog bite" are the original lyrics. It's about a girl, named Sandy, who had a dog. The guy wanted to know if it bit.
You guys are morons. It *is* about the Kent State shootings. Wikipedia owns your faces.
Wiki says that Polaris named a song LIKE the one thats about Ken State, but the meaning is on debate but NOT confirmed. So there's no proof for the Ken State thing... moron.
It was such a wonderful show, i do miss it dearly.
and no need for name calling, just because we watched it as kids. Doesnt give reason for childish behavior. =D
always thought the first line was "its mighty strange"
then "or have you picked the dark again
Hey Sandy
does your dog bite"
Thats when i was like ten
Im glad i finally know the real lyrics so when i rewatch pete n pete on a warm, breezy summer night, with the deck door open, i can sing along in my head as the intro plays!
Pete and Pete rule!!!! Especially younger brother!! I wish I could watch them again :-[
The third line is unoffical and unconfirmed. "Settle to shoot me" is simply the subtitle's interpritation, no one involved with Polaris or Pete & Pete have confirmed it.
Tera Melos cover of this song is amazing!
Great song!
actually i think it is based on the Kent State Shootings. In the lyrics it says "end of speech, its the end of the day." Sandra Scheuer was an honor student in speech therapy and was walking with a speech student across the campus
It's not "Don't you talk back". It's "Does your dog bite?"
The lyrics are as follows:
Hey smilin' strange
You lookin' happily deranged
Could you settle to shoot me?
Or have you picked your target yet?
Hey Sandy
Does your dog bite,
Hey Sandy
Four feet away
End of speech, it's the end of the day
We was only funnin'
But guiltily I thought you had it comin'
Hey Sandy
Does your dog bite,
Hey Sandy
Hey Sandy
Does your dog bite,
Hey Sandy
Hey Sandy
Does your dog bite,
Hey Sandy
Listen to the song. It's clear as, well honestly it's not clear...but that's it trust me.
who cares if its does your dog bite..or if its about the kent state shootings..
its a sick ass song - Cudder
I found seasons 1 and 2 at Best Buy but from what i understand they were going to release season 3 but decided not to.Oh well, what are you going to do?
pete y pete
otro pedo!!
I thaught it was only me who liked the song so much. I'm happy other people like it just as much as I do :-)
It brings back good memories :-)
Polaris - "Hey Sandy" is a song written about Sandra Lee Scheuer, who died from a fatal neck wound in the Kent State Massacre. Harvey Andrews has a song by the same name, written about the same events that took place at Kent State. GOSH!
The Sndy in the Kent State shooting is probably not this one, however listen to HEY SANDY by Harvey Andrews (from some 30 years or more ago, that is Definitely the Kent State uni Sandy..
"Hey Sandy, Hey Sandy, why were you the one, all those years of growing up are wasted now, and gone." I think the album was called "A Writer of Songs" it also featured a song about the struggles in Northern Ireland called "The Soldier" which caused the album to be banned by the Beeb at the time..
Yea Tero Melos' cover is sick... but this song will always have a place.
ai yi yi!!!
Wow I was way off when I was a kid. I thought it went,
"His mother's strange,
You're looking at the leafy range,
Can you sally shimmy,
Or have you picked your dog at last?
It's in me,
aiy aiy aiy aiy,
don't let your dog bi-i-i-ite
It's in me."
the right sentence is.. hey Sandy, ai ai ai aa
Dustin Dollin
ai ai ai aa
hey Sandy :)
I never Knew the Lyrics.
I thought it was:
It's Mighty strange
This living happily deranged
Would you settle to shoot me
Or have you bit the Dog again
(It Bit a me)
Does your dog bite?
(It bit a me)
Now I'm disappointed. :(
Oh my dayz!!!!! I never thought I'd hear this again! I love this show with a passion!!!! *teary childhood memories* :)
Vagrant Solipsis is correct about the lyrics. It's "does your dog bite." Go to Youtube and search for "Hey Sandy Live - Mark Mulcahy". It's just Mark and an acoustic guitar and that's clearly the lyrics.
ever think that she was shot in the neck and dogs instinctively go for the neck. hence why is your neck bleeding.
They should have run over those kids with tanks :D
I'm pretty sure these are the lyrics at the beginning:
Hey smilin' strange
You're lookin' at the leaky range
Diddalittala shibay
Or have you sicked your dog on me?
I can't describe how I felt when I heard this song again. It brings back childhood memories, but beyond that, it gives me a feeling that isn't b/c of memories. It just gives me this incredible feeling. I haven't herd this song for maybe 15 years.
I have the soundtrack to Pete and Pete... it included the lyrics... It is "Does your Dog BITE".. not don't you talk back.. as for the massacre reference.. one can only ask the band. gl
I wouldn't be surprised if the original lyrics were intended as "don't you talk back" but in an effort to be a bit more kid-friendly, subtitles on the DVDs and lyric sheets on the album jacket say "does your dog bite".
Harvey Andrews' 1970 song "Hey Sandy" was addressed to Sandra Scheuer. As far as I know there is no proof saying Polaris's version is about her.
@Levon:
I understand completely.
i just downloaded torrent pete and pete seasons 1-3.. cmon and experience nostalgia with me!!!
This song is NOT about the Kent State shootings—you're getting mixed up with Harvey Andrews' 1970 song with the same name.
The best guess I ever saw for the third line was "Can we settle this soon, babe?"
This sounds like its about a crazy neighbor he had named Sandy.
The lyric is not, 'Can you stand to shoot me?'
The correct lyric is, 'Can you settle a sure bet?'
Third line in the song is not "Could you settle to shoot me?" It's "Can you settle a sure bet?" As confirmed by Danny fucking Tamberelli from Pete and Pete.
The last 2 posts are correct, Danny T. confirmed it's "can you settle a sure bet"
Either that or he trolled us hard
Danny T. is an actor not a fucking musician, what the hell would he know?
Actually, Danny T is a fucking musician rockstalgia. He has his own band and everything! Also, for all you people complaining about missing this show....it's all on YouTube....every single episode.
According to Danny Tamberelli, the lyric is "could you settle a sure bet?"
The song is about a dude's wang who he names Sandy, and he shot man mustard all over some target.
the song's about your girl friend you feel kind of bad about hitting but also feel like she deserved it for speaking up for herself.
polaris has written songs about the end of the world (waiting for october) and jerking off too much (summerbaby) BY MARKS OWN ADMITION. most of the songs are just what ever he felt like doing as long as there was some usable content for the show. remember, he was an established rock star when he signed on.
can you settle a sure bet is absolutely it.
or R-Dogs right and its Diddalittala shibay
The song wad written by Mark Mulcahy and it had nothing to do with the shooting at Kent State and the only thing it had to do with Danny T. was the fact it was the theme song for the Adventures of Pete & Pete.
Hey Sandy was a great song written by Harvey Andrews - UK folk singer in 1972> great song - one of my favorites for all time
the song is about a friend of mark who put too much teeth in during a blowjob, this is NOT based on Harvey Andrews song
honestly, Im just so damn glad that all these comments arent that old. I remember when I got to know it via Pete&Pete and back then we all had 56K modems at best and I actually wrote an e-mail to nickelodeon to find out who made this song.
was one of the favs of me and a special girl I once knew and even if after 14 years and finally trying to break and destroy one another its still a vivid reminder of the good old days when we were teenagers and enjoyed one another in such an innocent and playful way.
good to see it is (still) a joyful piece of music to so many ppl, no matter what the meaning is.
I'm sitting at work trying to find the lyrics to this song and I came across these comments. When I read GG Allin's comment about man mustard I literally laughed out loud in my cubicle and people turned and looked at me like wtf.
Lol, thanks GG.
www.thelanternlight.com for some kickass stuff
I feel like we really bonded when I read this feed. It's nice that it's here for people seeking nostalgia and to quench that desire for "truth" about this recallable tune from years ago.
1. It's definitely "does your dog bite"
2. I want so badly to know the truth about this urban legend creating lyric...but I feel likes it's either
A.) Can you settle a sure bet
B.) Can we settle this soon, babe?
When I listen close the syllable is definitely a "b", but it's muddled by either an "e", "n", or I've tinkered with the idea of an "m", as if he says "Can it! Shouldn't assume, babe"
Yes, you're right. It's hopeless <3
Pete n Pete best Nick show hands down
Reply if you read this. I have no idea what the lyric is.
Definitely “can you settle a sure betâ€
