Mourning Air Lyrics
Artist: Portishead
Album: Portishead
Did I see a moment with you
In a half lit world
I'm frightened to believe
But I must try
If I stumble if I fall
I'm reaching out in this mourning air, ohh
Have I got the strength to ask
Beyond the window
I feel this fear alone
Until we have
Total honesty
If I tremble or fall
I'm reaching out in this mourning air, ohh
Should I feel a moment with you
To softly whisper
I crave nothing else so much
Longing to reveal
Total honesty
I can feel your touch
I'm reaching out in this mourning air, ohh
I'm reaching out in this mourning air, ohh

Comments/Interpretations
I think she's committing suicide.
the Mourning is true. and the rest is very literal.
I can be quite certain, because my best friend died, on my birthday and we have many many nights like that in my dreams.
Not committing suicide...Just wanting more than anything to give herself totally to someone and scared of what the possible rejection would do to her.
i think she has lost someone.. she is mourning and she can't believe she shared some of her life with this person which is a very special thing (to share life, moments, experience) and now he or she is gone(out of her life), she doesnt want it to be, but it is something she has to accept even though she craves to just be with this person again. all she can do is mourn, there's not much else she can do.. it's a mourning air.
i agree with western eyes.
after reading his comments, i tried to concentrate on the following lyrics of the song:
Have I got the strength to ask
Beyond the window
I feel this fear alone
Until we have
Total honesty
reaching total honesty will distort the temporary social equilibrium and a possible no will mean mourning to her.
anyway no equilibrium exists really and by realizing the ideology of time, she mourns even more.
and i think looking for "total something" is an empty search yet mourning is a real thing, such that it takes over the "whole" moment you are in.
Western Eyes is correct.
Someone has touched her life and she wants them.. but cannot have them. She isn't suicidal she just knows if she doesn't have this particular person she may never find the same type of connection again.
I agree with Katrina, mourning doesn't have to mean a literal/physical death, she just want a ralationship/connection and if cannot have/find it will mourn it mentally/spiritually
A half lit world is a dream. She dreamt of s lost one. She struggles with the loss.
i like all is mourning air
i hope not to shered what is not MINE
so long
Where the fuck does u get the part about suicide?
