KID Lyrics
Artist: Pretenders
Album: Isle Of View
KID WHAT CHANGED YOUR MOOD
YOU'VE GONE ALL SAD SO I FEEL SAD TOO
I THINK I KNOW SOME THINGS WE NEVER OUTGROW
YOU THINK IT'S WRONG
I CAN TELL YOU DO
HOW CAN I EXPLAIN
WHEN YOU DON'T WANT ME TO
KID MY ONLY KID
YOU LOOK SO SMALL YOU'VE GONE SO QUIET
I KNOW YOU KNOW WHAT I'M ABOUT
I WON'T DENY IT
BUT YOU FORGIVE THOUGH YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND
YOU'VE TURNED YOUR HEAD
YOU'VE DROPPED BY HAND
ALL MY SORROW, ALL MY BLUES
ALL MY SORROW
SHUT THE LIGHT, GO AWAY
FULL OF GRACE, YOU COVER YOUR FACE
KID GRACIOUS KID
YOUR EYES ARE BLUE BUT YOU WON'T CRY
I KNOW ANGRY TEARS ARE TOO DEAR
YOU WON'T LET THEM GO

Comments/Interpretations
Beatuful song once again from Pretenders...if you have one of their albums, there is no reason to turn on the radio anymore...
the lyrics aren't
"you've dropped by hand"
the correct lyrics are
"you've dropped my hand"
Also the last stanza should be "Kid, precious kid" -- not "gracious." The acoustic version of this song is so lovely and haunting.
LOVE THIS SONG IN 17 AGAIN WHEN THEY FILMED THE SLOW DANCE SCENE.
What is the true meaning of this song?
lee, read on you tube it was about a prostitute and her son. not sure about that. i have always assumed it was about chrissie telling james that she was sleeping with pete.
This is definately a song about a moms child finding out about her lifestyle and her being ashamed. At first i thought drugs or lesbianism, but after indepth investigation it turns out she made a living as a prostitute, and is sad for disappointing her innocent child. The lyrics arent clear and are deliberately vague so more mothers will relate to the song.
But what a beautiful song! This was a "hidden jem" song that was definately underpublicized and should've been her #1 song. I just found it recently and it gives me goosebumps every time i hear it.
This song should give any parent, mom or dad some emotion. How many times do us parents love our child's deeply, but still tend to disappoint them. That's why I love this song. I can relate. This song was me and my son after divorce, and bringing a single lifestyle of mine to him. He couldn't grasp it.
