Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand Lyrics

Artist: Primitive Radio Gods
Album: Rocket

Jan lays down and wrestles in her sleep
Moonlight spills on comic books
And superstars in magazines
An old friend calls and tells us where to meet
Her plane takes off from Baltimore
And touches down on Bourbon Street

We sit outside and argue all night long
About a god we've never seen
But never fails to side with me
Sunday comes and all the papers say
Ma Teresa's joined the mob
And happy with her full time job

Do do do do doo do

Am I alive or thoughts that drift away?
Does summer come for everyone?
Can humans do as prophets say?
And if I die before I learn to speak
Can money pay for all the days I lived awake
But half asleep?

Do do do do doo do x 2

A life is time, they teach us growing up
The seconds ticking killed us all
A million years before the fall
You ride the waves and don't ask where they go
You swim like lions through the crest
And bathe yourself on zebra flesh

I've been downhearted baby,
I've been downhearted baby,
Ever since the day we met

(repeat)

Third verse is "can humans do what prophets say?" not "can humans do as prophets say?"

by Rob on 8/1/2008 4:56pm
Great lyrics, but it says "a life is time to teach YOU growing up" not "a life is time to teach US growing up"
by Jamie on 8/2/2008 7:38pm
4th verse is actually 'a life is time to teach you growing up'
not 'a life is time to teach us growing up'

Its definitely one of my favorite songs. There is a lot of religious connotation. It has always put me in a more contemplative mood. for some reason the Portion talking about the plane touching down on bourbon street has always sounded like "man landing outside the grace of G-d". or maybe I am being way to profound and looking too deeply into this. LOL.

I love the song

I rest my head on a pillow of concrete. Think about it.

wonderful song
by Lynn on 9/24/2008 12:51am
I think this song has a lot of meaning regardless of religious persuasion. It is a beautiful display of language that reminds us we are all seeking the same destination but taking different routes.
by Sheila on 10/8/2008 10:59pm
I absolutely love this song.
by Tendouji on 11/14/2008 8:48am
Yup, I heard this song long time before but some how I've forgotten about it over time. Only few years back, somehow this song kept echoing in my mind and I decided to download it. If this is not a good song, what is?

Man this is a great song. It always reminds me of a rainy day, but not in a bad way. It's strange lol...
by Leah on 2/24/2009 7:52am
This song is simply beautiful. I heard it one day at work and I think the music itself is fascinating. I had to look up the lyrics and I love it ten times more now. It's so intriguing and really makes you ponder on it's meaning. Now I just can't stop listening to it!

actually the plane taking off from baltimore and landing on bourbon street is about never really taking off from baltimore at all. Bourbon street is a famous bar street in baltimore
by Relly on 5/13/2009 4:40am
Bourbon Street is in New Orleans

by monnie on 5/31/2010 8:39pm
it's "mother theresa's joined the mob..and happy with her full-time job" go back to when the song was written...she took $$ from the "mafia" for her causes...but, guess what?? jesus hung out with sinners too, just like we do..so don't get mad at mother theresa for taking coin from evil..jesus did too...rob peter to pay paul..that's how it goes
by dawn on 6/29/2010 12:05pm
astral
by mrelder on 7/3/2010 12:28pm
Really GREAT song; but, stop trying to look too deeply "into" the song. It's just a bunch of jibberish. Look up the words to the song "TIME". by PinkFloyd. Now 'that' is deep.
by myz on 9/23/2010 8:30am
It's a shame the song loses some money because of sampling another song, which I don't think this song needed.
by Jo Jo on 11/24/2011 1:33am
Beautiful lyrics
by Rick on 3/12/2015 9:19am
I found this song a couple of years back on my daughters itunes downloads. This is an unbelieable song that puts me in another place everytime I hear it. I can't just play it once.
