Maggie Mae Lyrics
Artist: Rod Stewart
Wake up Maggie, I think I've got something to say to you
It's late September and I really should be back at school
I know I keep you amused
But I fell I'm being used
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that's what really hurts
The morning sun when it's in your eyes really shows your age
But that don't worry me none, in my eyes you're everything
I laughed at all of your jokes
My love you didn't need to coax
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my soul and that's a pain I can do without
All I needed was a friend to lend a helping hand
But you turned into a lover and mother, what a lover, you wore me out
All you did was wreck my bed
And in the morning kick me in the head
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
'Cause you didn't want to be alone
You stole my heart, I couldn't leave you if I tried
I suppose I could collecd my books and go on back to school
Or steal my daddy's cue and make a living at playing pool
Or find myself a rock and roll band
That needs a helping hand
Oh Maggie, I wished I'd never seen your face
You made a first class fool out of me
But I'm as blind as a fool can be
You stole my heart but I love you anyway
I'd never seen your face
I'll get on back home, one of these days

love it
I also love it. I even named my new little puppy Maggie (Mae) I know it's (may) but I want to keep it in the family. I'm one too.
once upon a time I had this album.
It's a classic, who can't but love Maggie Mae! It's one of those songs when you hear it (for those of you my age) that it makes you reminisce about what you were doing during that time in your life when this song it came out. *sigh*
I still love you Clara!
im only 18 and i love this song it makes me smile
my mum used to listen to it when i was little in kitchen
:)
beatiful song..
Its an okay song, but I always get this song mentioned to me EVERY TIME I introduce myself to people. My boyfriend even turned to me and said, "Listen, its your song!" when it played on the radio last night.
hehe. i want someone to sing this to me. would be cute.
One of the greatest songs ever, no doubt about that.
It reminds me of my youth, my first love, my days at highschool and so on...
I dayly enter "you tube" to listen to Maggie Mae and similar songs.
By the way - I'm 53 of age; do you understand my point of view?
When Maggie was high in each and every popchart I was at the age of 15.
Hearty greetings to each and every of you fellow guys,
Andreas
I dated a woman who handle was MaggiMae, and song lyrics are EXACTLY what happened to me. I returned to school and finished my teaching career. Needless to say I have a love/hate feeling toward the song, and I'm 57.
I love this song. Classic. Although I'm miffed why my friend picked this as his wedding song. I also have a female friend whom I call and truly earned the name "Maggie Mae". It's NOT a compliment.
actually i haven't heard yet this songs..... but i knew the lyrics already coz my friend tommy from oregon told me about this song and had sent me a copy... :)
I had a boyfriend who said when he heard this song he thought of me. Is that a good thing or bad thing.
This song is the best song ever. I listen to it so much. I listen to it before school and it just puts me in the best mood
i know a maggie, and love her very much. this song says it all
I love this song cause my daddy sang it to me when i was really little
I love this song! I had the album too! Yes it's a good thing, it speaks of the passionate love of the younger man and older woman. She wrecks his bed and makes him laugh and he falls in love.
I pursued Maggie when I was in high school around the time this song came out. She did make a fool out of me, leading me on (along with everyone else). She led me away from school, not home, as we used to skip classes together. After she broke my heart, I ended up hanging around the pool hall, another reference in the song. This tune is bittersweet for me, but as Stewart says, "But I love you, anyway".
I,too, named my new puppy "Maggie Mae"
Just heard this song on the radio and I still love it
mi dad used to listen to it all the time... brings back good memories!!! :)
I listen to this song on cd over and over again, every morning on my way to work. And it made my start my early day work in smile. I love this song so much!! I play it over and over again on my way home from work after tiring 12 hours shift. And.... this song makes me smile and dream to hv my dram guy to express his love to me just like the way in this song....Mmmmm..... life is perfect for me by then.
Next time try and get the lyrics right. it's "The morning sun when it's in your FACE really shows your age."
Everytime I hear this song it brings me back to a barraks at FT Knox getting ready to go to Vietnam
i love this song
Rod Stewart is wonderful with this song. I saw it again last night on American Idol and really enjoyed it again. Its a fun song. I like it.
HATES THE SONG >=( sorry but true!
One of those timeless classics--Love it!!
Biff is right - get the lyrics right. it's "The morning sun when it's in your FACE really shows your age."
Im only 16 years old and I absolutely LOVE the 70s rock and 80s and just LOVE this song it's just amazing this new rap shit is just a disgrace to this kind of music.
This song pure blows chunkcicles.
I was named after this song :) im getting the lyrics along with the sheet music tattooed :)
Interesting. I just realized after 42 years that Rod only calls her Maggie during the entire song, not Maggie MAE.
im 15 and this song is so close to my heart! my dad was had a band so i was into the oldies music since i was little. ive grown up loving dean martin and louie armstrong all the way up to green day and others. 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s. theyr all way better than todays trashy music. MaggieMae 4 eva!
I have loved this song since I was about 5 years old and was played on the radio ,way back in 1973 , and I have loved every thing he has done ever since.
Oh Katie, I wished I'd never seen your face.
I just adopted a little Chihuahua and I named her Maggie Mae. Love Rod and that song. She stole my heart away too.
reminds me of the beach, hampton beach,nh
anyone realize this is about an older woman seducing a younger boy? f**ked his brains out and dumped him. poor kid. must have been good while it lasted
I love how he implies Maggie is an old cougar.
i used to date a much older woman when i was young - she was Maggie Mae for sure - she wore me out and i was crazy over her. but we soon parted ways but i still remember her!!!
My sweet baby girl is due in November and her name will be Maggie Mae! Bc of this song, which is very special to my husband bc of a childhood friend and bc both her grandmother and great grandmother have Mae as a middle name! It's perfect!
I first heard the song in late 70's, on magnetic tape, when I was eleven. And still now get emocionally excited about the sound of the mandoline in the end of the track.
I use this song in my ESL and GED class
There are many errors in the lyrics here.
"The morning sun when it's in your FACE..." is the first. Then "All I needed was a friend to lend a GUIDING hand..." "And THEN THE MORNING KICKED me in the head..." and "I could collect my books and GET on back to school..."
And at the end "MAGGIE, I WISH I'd never seen your face..." Maggie, I wish is left out.
I am still surprised how people love a song without recognizing what the lyrics are saying. Its about a boy that was abused (at least) by an older woman. Now lets think of a song about a girl that was abused by an older man. And? The song is still great?
Most favorite song ever!
Maggie Maes may come, and Maggie Maes may go, but on this show, it's only rock n' roll. Had my first 32-year old at 15. She soon faded. Found my second one at 62 - she being 75. Better than any 17 year old I EVER had. Unfortunately my last passed in her sleep. Someday I'll join her. So happy together at last. Sorry Linda June, but you just could not compare.
