Caramel Lyrics
Artist: Suzanne Vega
Album: Nine Objects Of Desire
Music & Lyrics by Suzanne Vega
It won't do
to dream of caramel,
to think of cinnamon
and long for you.
It won't do
to stir a deep desire,
to fan a hidden fire
that can never burn true.
I know your name,
I know your skin,
I know the way
these things begin;
But I don't know
how I would live with myself,
what I'd forgive of myself
if you don't go.
So goodbye,
sweet appetite,
no single bite
could satisfy...
I know your name,
I know your skin,
I know the way
these things begin;
But I don't know
what I would give of myself,
how I would live with myself
if you don't go.
It won't do
to dream of caramel,
to think of cinnamon
and long
for you.

Comments/Interpretations
This song is about frosted butts. It's a good song considering it is about a butt.
Only an asshole would think this was about an asshole
i think this song is about temptation and how one should react to it.
yea, i agree, eddie. and 2 karl, u sound genuinly like my cousin
it's about not giving into temptation...because once is never enough. Once you give in...all you ever want is more.
Its about temptation, yes. She's trying to resist, not to hurt him since she knows she cant go any further in the future than eating him up, once in a while.. like candy. So she is the one in control, trying not to be selfish and break his heart. there is absolutely no asshole involved either way.
I believe itīs about those times (by strange reasons) you are left alone with an ex... you know, all his/her trick, and what is at risk if you fall in their game.
CSSL, I completely agree...
I agree with you guys, I think this song is about that forbidden desire/love, but since it cannot & should not be, she wants him to go so as not to give in to temptation. Very lovely melody.
