Dont Stand So Close To Me Lyrics
Artist: The Police
Album: Dont Stand So Close To Me
Young teacher the subject
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking She's so close now
This girl is half his age
Don't stand to close to me
Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it's not so easy
To be the teacher's pet
Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, whe's waiting
His car is warm and dry
Don't stand so close to me
Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use
He sees her
He starts to shake he starts to cough
Just like the old man in
That famous book by Nabakov
Don't stand so close to me

Comments/Interpretations
The word famous at the end isnt in the song.
Yep that word famous is not in the song. Also wat a great song remninds me of myself so much im a teahcer and only 23.
You're right about 'famous'. I'm using the lyric as an example of the underestimated strength of song lyrics for my "Writers Group" today.
The others I like are The Pet Shop Boys "When I left,I left from the station with a rucksack and much trepidation", and Gilbert O'Sullivan's "As I drink my Napoleon Shandy......look it up!
the song also says "he starts to shake and cough", not "He starts to shake he starts to cough." As to the the "famous" it doesn't say it but it is a famous book regardless "Lolita" by vladimir nabokov, and thats how his name is spelt nabokov not nabakov. Always good to see historical refferences in classic rock, for instance "we didn't start the fire" by billy joel.
in the '86 version the word famous is in the song
This song reminds me of me in more ways then one haha. Love this song, thanks for the lyrics.
In the 1986 version the word famous is in the song.
Love This Song Reminds Me Of Stuf Lol x
Ah..this song makes me think of an idea for a movie that I had. Except the girl isn't half his age. And he's a college student who, despite being 18, is so smart he's about to graduate. And he's training to be a teacher so he helps out with her class and she gradually falls in love with him. ANd her "friends" that are jealous is her archrival Lana. But despite the differences it stil reminds me.
wow these r wrong
They are pretty accurate actually. Except like one word.
The word Famous is in the song but only in the 86 version.
These lyrics aren't what I expected. They're too inaccurate. Just listened to the song bout an hour ago. It's one of my favorites.
Some of these lyrics are wrong, but is this song about a relastionship between a teacher and a student?
Love Sting. He is my all time favorite. beautiful song and lyrics.
nobody can't beat Sting. love him.
Hey guys, these lyrics are exactly accurate if you listening to the 1986 version of the song, different tempo, a little slower, different lyrics that the first release.
this is one of the most realistic songs ive ever heard...nice!!
My friends student teacher used to hit on her all the time and sing this song to her!!!!!! BAH!! ew.
Amazing song. though, its Nabokov, not Nabakov...
I absoutly love this song!!!! The tune and the words are amazing!!!
W00t
Please dont stand so close to me!
This song soooo reminds me of my principal 20 years ago. I wonder if he's still yummy!!
Doesn't matter how the guy spelt his name. In the song (original Police version) Sting clearly pronounces it NAB-A-KOV
I wnat to be the guy:). No but really great song awsome lyrics. Deep yet catchy. Sting does a great job of making music. If any body wants to learn anymore songs try brass monkey by the besti boys stupid by funny
the word famous is at the end of the '86 version.
How many times are people going to say that the word famous is in the 86 version? Dang, we get it already!
you dumbs! Are RUSH rules! The best band in the world! You sting/k!
It's funny how it's the teachers who get fired even though the schoolgirls obviously keep having a crack.
des t strike anyone strange tht this song is so strongly worded and sting used to be a teacher?
This is my song.
I'm sure his time as a teacher partially inspired the song, but he denies it being autobiographical.
Anyway, great song, absolutely love it. Lyrics are slightly off, but no big.
I was Googling random subjects for song lyrics and came across this. I didn't remember it till I was reading the lyrics then I'm like "OMG GLEE!!!!"
I love Glee. Whose with me? (:
I'm with you Jojo! Glee is great! and this song is great! :-)
Yup yup, this is one of the best songs ever. Hmm, yeah there are a lot of mistakes in these lyrics ):
dont't you guys have anything better to do
This song reminds me of me and my teacher. It's actually pretty freaky how accurate...weird.
reminds me when my english teacher seduced me in her car & eventually after many trysts she had my baby L0L
has anyone read Vampire academy ? like this song. is totally like the first book in the series. i fucking love this song now ;o
i like this song so much i peed my pants
"my name is": Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
"my name is": get your bladder checked out..
anyway, i love this song, but has anyone else noticed that sting sings alot about obsession? for example, " Every breath you take" is about an obsessed stalker and althought the school teacher isnt " obsessed here, the school girl is ..
I used to wonder about the Navokov part of song. Now I know.
Also I used to like a teacher and was convinced she like me in the same way. She did not it was just a fantasy. Ha Ha
Reminds me of an English teacher I used to have...everyone had a crush on him (including some of the guys...or so i suspected) until about a month into the year...one of those people I hope I can run into after i make a name for myself in a couple of years and get together with then :) awesome song! brings back a lot of hopeful memories!
yo fools! gotta love this song! some sick shite mannn
Haha! this makes me think of pretty little liars, love the song
The lyric differences - "famous", "he starts to shake he starts to cough" are from the '86 version.
basically what a ton of other people already said...the word "famous" isnt in the song (at least not in most versions--@m might be right im not sure) and its "he starts to shake and cough" not "he starts to shake he starts to cough".
STING ALL THE WAY!!!!!
i thought it would be hilarious to sing this for a school talent show and dedicate it to one of the hot new teachers. The look on his face was priceless.
In the 1986 re-release version, the word "Famous" is added. Also, in this version, "He starts to shake he starts to cough" is clearly spoken. People must be well versed on subjects before commenting.
i have been a happier oerson now i have downloaded this song i cant function properly without listening to it
These are the lyrics of the '86 version of this song, that's why there are differences...And thank you to Police to make me discover Nabokov!
happy feet ......sorry the every breath u take isnt about obsession its really about him watching his kids grow up and him watching that
This songs is freaking suspenseful, its also very dramatic.
Love this song
Owsome
This song sucks dick
