You Got Me Lyrics
Artist: The Roots
Album: Things Fall Apart
[Featuring Erykah Badu]
[Chorus] x 2
(Erykah Badu)
If you were worried 'bout where
I been or who I saw or
what club I went to with my homies
baby don't worry you know that you got me
[Verse 1]
(Black Thought)
Somebody told me that this planet was small
we use to live in the same building on the same floor
and never met before
until I'm overseas on tour
and peep this ethiopian queen from philly
taking classes abroad
she studying film and photo flash focus record
said she workin on a flick and
could my click do the score
she said she loved my show in paris
at Elysee Montmartre
and that I stepped off the stage
and took a piece of her heart
we knew from the start that
things fall apart, intentions shatter
she like that shit don't matter
when I get home get at her
through letter, phone, whatever
let's link, let's get together
shit you think not, think the Thought went home and forgot
time passed, we back in philly now she up in my spot
tellin me the things I'm tellin her is makin her hot
startin buildin with her constantly round the clock
now she in my world like hip-hop
and keep tellin me
[Chorus] x2
[Verse 2]
(Black Thought)
Yo, I'm the type that's always catchin a flight
and sometimes I gotta be out at the height of the night
and that's when she flip and get on some 'ol
(Female Voice)
Another lonely night
seems like I'm on the side you only loving your mic
I know you gotta get that paper daddy keep that shit tight
but yo I need some sort of love in my life, you dig me
while politicin with my sister from new york city
she said she know this ball player and he think I'm pretty
sike, I'm playin boo, you know it's just wit you I'm stayin boo
and when cats be poppin game I don't hear what they sayin boo
when you out there in the world, I'm still your girl
with all my classes I don't have the time for life's thrills
so when you sweatin on stage think of me when you rhyme
and don't be listenin to your homies they be leavin you blind
(Black Thought)
Yeah, so what you sayin I can trust you?
(Female Voice)
Is you crazy, you my king for real
(Both)
But sometimes relationships get ill
(Female Voice)
No doubt
[Chorus] x2
[Verse 3]
(Black Thought)
Thet snake could be that chick
and that rat could be that cool cat
that's whispering "she tryin to play you for the fool Black"
if something's on your chest then let it be known
see I'm not your every five minutes all on the phone
and on the topic of trust, it's just a matter of fact
that people bite back and fracture what's intact
and they'll forever be I ain't on some "oh I'm a celebrity"
I deal with the real so if it's artificial let it be
I've seen people caught in love like whirlwinds
listening to they squads and listening to girlfriends
that's exactly the point where they whole world ends
lies come in, that's where that drama begins, she like
[Chorus] until fade
"we're not against rap...we're not against rappers...
what we are against is those THUGS"

The "Female Voice" that's EVE
I thought it is Erykah Badu
it says right there Erykah Badu..
dummy
it was written by Jill Scott and their's a live version with Jill Scott.
LOL! the singing voice is Erykah Badu, the female rapper is Eve
damn i thoguht the rapper was erykah too..it sounds too soft to be eve...and the jill scott version in ridiculously good...so powerful
its erykah badu. touchole....eve cant sing thats why she raps...thats what most people do when they cant sing haha
Is it just me or is Black Thought the best to ever do it? He better than Jay or Em
cudowna piosenka
people please do some research, its erykah on the chorus, and eve on the 2nd verse.
The first writers..ya'll are STUPID
Female Voice=EVE
sure black thought is good but he's not the best, he's got a good voice and lyrics and stuff, but he ain't the best
He's got a VERY string command of the mic. In my opinion, much better that J. Also, his raps will appeal to a smarter audience.
Damn crazy black z a god but nas z a legend n a legend killah ask jay z
for anyone that doesnt think black thought is one of the illest, you need to do your homework..highly underrated by many
Best lyricist hands down, Rakim. Black Thought, 2nd. Love this song, so mellow.
guys it's erykah badu on the chorus, not eve...
what a classic
i like this song cuz its very calm n relaxing ... and black has a uniqueness about him, not like all these other rappers. erykah killed the chorus, n yall that waz eve on the female verse.
nice songs
i love this song i love the roots and all hip hopers........one
im only 16,a big fan of chi-town musiq jazz rap mi area[soul],yet this song speaks to me,,,giving me the understanding nothing lastz forever,,,even love;so make it last
one of my favorite songs
Sta RoLa sTa cHIdA.
RiFa!!!
i think black though is definetely on the top 10 and he is better than jay-z..the problem is he ain't got no extra business and the media doesn't help him like jay..and he is from philly..but he is a legend ..right he is!
this track is very very cool , i bring it with me , everywhere i go , (i've got it , in a CD)
i really like his lyric ,it's more cool than the lyrics of otha rapper , and this girl who rap , IT IS AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LIL Kush baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is Eve rapping the verse, it's Erikah on the chorus it's a beautiful song one of my Fav. Roots songs.
EVE is Rapping
Black is the illest period. There are others though Rakim the god mc & em is nice. J should not even be held in the same catagory and for that matter niether shoul nas although he's leagues above J but his music lacks focus. Black sticks to his themes.
i`ve heard this musica from 2pac and another girl!!!!!!! does anyone knows who sing with him????
am in love with the live version which features Jill Scott...
Erykah Badu sings the hook in the studio version. Eve raps. However, the hook was written & originally performed by Jill Scott.
this song is the best!!! black rips the mic surgically and erykah....shes just too good
Song will forever be a classic ... Black Thought was always on point with the lyrics and timeless concepts ... Who is the female rapping on there? For a while I thought it was Eve ...
It is Eve rapping. Pay attention to most of those that have come and gone before you.
Always loved that song...The Roots are awesome.
Such a mellow beautiful song...jay z has a different type of rapping technique his is more commercial..this track is mellow, you cannot compare it to commercial tracks
People are retarded, Soulja Boy is the best to ever and will ever go it...plus that's Lil Kim on the chorus and Lauryn Hill rappin..y'all so dumb, wake up people!!!
That girl voice is Eve
Nice
