I believe this is about the plain of the clans of gods or possibly a sort of place where you go when you die to see if you could go to Valhalla in Norse mythology not 100% though.

Actually, Vanaheim is the home of the Vanir, the other sect of gods 'opposing' the Aesir (Odin, Thor etc). They have since been incorporated into the Norse pantheon.
