Yesterday I Heard The Rain Lyrics
Artist: Tony Bennett
Yesterday I Heard the Rain
Tony Bennett
Written by Gene Lees and Armando Manzanero
Apparently never charted by anyone but it remains a nice song that was put on LP's by
everyone from Vicki Carr, Roy Clark, and Shirley Bassey to Perry Como, Percy Faith and
Frank Sinatra
Yesterday I heard the rain whispering your name
Asking where you'd gone
It fell softly from the clouds on the silent crowds
As I wandered on
Out of doorways black umbrellas came to pursue me
Faceless people as they passed were looking through me
No one knew me
Yesterday I shut my eyes, face-up to the skies
Drinking in the rain
But your image still was there floating in the air
Brighter than a flame
Yesterday I saw a city full of shadows without pity
And I heard the steady rain whispering your name
Whispering your name
Yesterday I saw a city full of shadows without pity
And I heard the steady rain whispering your name
Whispering your name

Comments/Interpretations
I've been hearing that song in my ind lately. There was a very special person in my life when I was quite young and I often think of her. About four years ago, when I turned 50, this song started to trickle back into my mind.
I love this song. Oddly, I'd only heard since I got XM-radio. Bennet is timeless.
Bennett is simply the best and this song is great!
I saw Tony Bennett years ago, always admired his work...only heard this song recently...it knocked me off my feet!
Just heard this song for the first time on Tony Bennett's Duets II. Had an overwhelming urge to see who wrote it. Tony Bennett and Alejandro Sanz did it amazingly great. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and I've heard thousands.
Kate Smith also recorded it, and hers is the most powerful and best!
Dionna Warwick also record this song on her "Promises, Promises" album. It's my favorite version of this song. It's her favorite album. I lost her recently and that song now has a lot of meaning to me.
Tony sings every song like he's actually there. He has nothing but class.
TONY BENNETT.
I HAVE BEEN HEARING THAT SONG FROM YEARS AND YEARS.
IS A VERY SPECIAL INTERPRETATION.
UNIC FOR ME INCLUDING HIS OTHOR, ARMANDO MANZANERO.
BENNETT IS THE MAXIM THE BEST SUPER.

the best is::BILL EVANS, EDDIE GOMEZ,SORRY DON'T HAVE THE DRUMMERS NAME BUT HE'S GREAT
tony bennett sings this in a supreme manner just beautiful .shirley bassey also gives an incredable touch and feelingto this lovely song.these artists can never be replaced.it makes me want to throw up when i hear the crap that is thust upon us today
This one of the most enjoyment of songs that Tony Bennett has ever sung and the words are so beautiful.
To say that this is a "nice song" does it a disservice. I don't know of any song of lost or distant love that can match this one in melody, inflection, mood, color, imagery, and sheer artistry--on a par with Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning."
