Flyin' shoes Lyrics
Artist: Townes Van Zandt
by Townes Van Zandt
Days full of rain
skys comin' down again
I get so tired
of these same old blues
same old song
Baby, it won't be long
'fore I be tyin' on
my flyin' shoes
flyin' shoes
till I be tyin' on
my flyin' shoes
Spring only sighed
summer had to be satisfied
fall is a feelin' that I just can't lose.
I'd like to stay
maybe watch a winter day
turn the green water
to white and blue
flyin' shoes
flyin' shoes
till I be tyin' on
my flyin' shoes
The mountain moon
forever sets too soon
bein' alone is all the hills can do
alone and then
her silver sails again
and they will follow
in their flyin' shoes
flyin' shoes
they will follow in their
flyin' shoes
Days full of rain
skys comin' down again
I get so tired
of the same old blues
same old song
Baby, it won't be long
till I be tyin' on
my flyin' shoes
flyin' shoes
till I be tyin' on
my flyin' shoes

Comments/Interpretations
I recommend Lyle Lovett's rendition of "Flying Shoes"
I love this song
Lyle Lovett's version is the best.
I'd give my left nut to play piano like that.
Sorry folks but nobody sings Townes, like Townes .Lyle is fantastic though, but Townes puts his heart and soul into every song he wrote and performed
I might have to agree with Ricky, Lyle may have sang it well, but in no way was it sang with the heart of the man feeling the songs entirety.
Much prefer the Townes version. Much respect to Lyle, but Townes felt this song on a level I don't think Lyle could.
I prefer Robert Earl Keen's version but then again I prefer REK to everything
my song...I sing it as a gift..but dang that Lovett can wring the Art out of any song..makes me cry to hear him...with love in my soul
MABAET
Cowboy Junkies' version is the best I ever heard aside from Townes' own. I think the only way you can hear it is by streaming it from the music section of their web site. Margo Timmins nails the sensibility of this song so beautifully, and that voice....
