Everything's Alright Lyrics

Artist: Jesus Christ Superstar
Album: Jesus Christ Superstar Soundtrack

Mary Magdalene
Try not to get worried
Try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you
oh Don't you know
Everything's alright
Yes everything's fine
And we want you to sleep well tonight
Let the world turn without you tonight
If we try
We'll get by
So forget all about us tonight

Apostles' Women
Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

Mary Magdalene
Sleep and I shall soothe you
Calm you and anoint you
Myrrh for your hot forehead
oh Then you'll feel
Everything's all right
Yes everything's fine
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet
Close your eyes
Close your eyes
And relax
Think of nothing tonight

Apostles' Women
Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

Judas
Woman your fine ointment
Brand new and expensive
Should have been saved for the poor
Why has it been wasted?
We could have raised maybe
Three hundred silver pieces or more
People who are hungry
People who are starving
Matter more
Than your feet and hair

Mary Magdalene
Try not to get worried
Try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you
oh Don't you know
And we want you to sleep well tonight
Let the world turn without you tonight
If we try
We'll get by
So forget all about us tonight

Women
Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

Jesus
Surely you're not saying
We have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always
Pathetically struggling
Look at the good things you've got!
Think while you still have me
Move while you still see me
You'll be lost
You'll be so sorry
When I'm gone

Mary Magdalene
Sleep and I shall soothe you
Calm you and anoint you
Myrrh for your hot forehead
oh then you'll feel
Everything's alright
Yes everything's fine
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet
Close your eyes
Close your eyes
And relax
Think of nothing tonight

Apostles' Women
Close your eyes
Alose your eyes
And relax
Think of nothing

Everything's all right
Yes everything's all right yes

wat do u mean sucks?! this is from one of the best musicals of all time.
by teach on 6/6/2008 7:04pm
Agreed. This musical reaches people that church cannot touch. This musican is a non-traditional way to teach about Christ.
by D.E on 6/7/2008 7:22pm
This is the best musical ever.
by caroline on 6/8/2008 12:11pm
this is one of my favorite
songs from the score.
maybe because its like my
dream to play mary magdalene,
i dont know. but i love the song.
by orangemiss on 6/10/2008 3:10am
well it is a great musical and has an exellent story line but i is incredably historicaly incorrent
by Amy on 6/15/2008 1:44pm
i love Jesus Christ Superstar...it's an amazing musical. My primary school, in scotland, did a production of it. I was only a backing singer but my brother was Jesus. It has the most beautiful songs in it.
by none of your buisness on 6/21/2008 6:48pm
luvv it! great song.
by Kate on 7/2/2008 9:58pm
The musical is to show the sturggle of Judas to come to terms with the conflict between him and Jesus and also with the conflict within himself. It is seen as historically inaccurate, because it does not follow the path of that set out in the bible, it is a different interpretation of the story that many have been told in one particular way. It is great because it gives the listener a different spin on what is popular to preech, gives them a chance to take a second look and create their own thoughts and opinions on what is seen as utter fact.
It does not in anyway downplay the struggle of Jesus to come to terms with what he thought was his path to travel, but gives new light on Judas's story.

I think the musical is fantastic!
by Dave on 7/16/2008 6:47pm
Then again... the Bible is all fiction. It's no more the truth than the Harry Potter books. To say that this musical is HISTORICALLY inaccurate is quite idiotic, since the Bible contains nothing more than a lot of ethic guidelines and stories with only a few grains of truth behind them.
by Sandy on 7/21/2008 12:06pm
The Bible is most certainly true and historically accurate as shown by archeological finds both recent and in times past. Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior!
by Preacher on 7/28/2008 12:33pm
Totally agreed, Sandy

He is risen!
by Mike on 7/28/2008 5:28pm
I just saw the show last night! It was great and the music was awesome!! I think "Everything's alright" is my favorite. As a Christian who has studied the bible (to no great extent), I appreciate the alternate view to Jesus's final days. Thats it..oh and Sandy, lighten up a bit on true and accurate. We all know that JC is the lord and savior. It's closed-minded, absolute statements like yours that turn people off to religion. Is that what Jesus would have said?? Or would he have used just a tad more tact?
by Candra on 8/3/2008 1:36pm
I like this song. I have this movie on DVD. my mom is watching it right now :P
by egg on 8/20/2008 2:09am
I really enjoy this song, kind of screwy, as a few people have mentioned, in terms of the TRUE story (sorry Dave, but we'll pray for your immortal soul :P) But I think this musical has really brought Christ's story into seccular living rooms (or theatres?) and first seeing it at the age of about eleven I really appreciated the attention to Judas' side, he looks at the world the way I do sometimes and it just goes to show how much Jesus flipped the world and it's view on its head when He came to "visit"
God bless y'all
by Marty on 8/28/2008 5:44pm
Listen to foxy shazam's version of this, I love this song

by Scott on 12/2/2008 1:03pm
Is there a God and does she work for me? I was skeptic until I needed her. When I needed her she was there and I am better for it. For me, God is personal. God overshadows religion and bibles. They are just her inspired creation.
by irina Ryan on 12/6/2008 2:36pm
I LOVE IT!
by KYL(E) on 12/11/2008 11:28pm

This song is so beautiful, and i love the musical :)
by Frank on 12/17/2008 9:54pm
The bible is fact. Mybe if we all follow Gods word. This would be a better place to live. Sometimes we all fall short and forget Gods word. Its time to catch up. And thank god for what his son has done for us all.
by Leonna on 1/8/2009 6:42pm
I love this musical and song because it was able to pull out the religous side of me. Because my family are sure not christan but yet I am. So it kind of helps!
by Lonnie on 1/15/2009 12:59am

isn't head not hair.
by dustbunny on 3/4/2009 6:59am
I watched this last night with my daughter; it'd been about 30 years since I'd seen or heard it. Great musical! I was surprised that I still knew most of the songs! I went to a missionary school and still appreciate the music in JCS for what it is. How can a "historically accurate" musical / rock opera come from the gospels when the gospels were written decades after the life of Jesus and don't agree with each other in many places as it is? And we accept "as gospel" the Bible put together more than 300 years after the death of Jesus. Many books were determined not to be divinely inspired, so they were left out. Nonetheless, some of those present great insight into the life of Jesus! So I love the music in JCS, and accept it as an interpretation of the various stories of the life of Jesus. It makes us think twice about the evil of Judas and the willingness of Jesus to die.
by madi on 3/18/2009 2:34pm
awesome! this is cool.

This was a nice song.
by Jojo on 6/9/2009 3:33pm
as someone pointed out, the defining characteristic of this song is the fact it is in 5. why it is so catchy i think.

Di was just on the wrong forum. I'm a heathen, and *I* love this show. And agree w/Caroline. This is my favorite tune, and a lullaby I sing to any child I'm trying to quiet.

Sorry, Teach, nothing to do w/Christ. Just a good story, about some painful relationships, w/great music.

by fran on 1/8/2010 7:05pm
I LOVE THIS SONG!
by patti on 2/9/2010 2:15pm
What a gorgeous song. love the music.
by Gene on 2/16/2010 10:10am
Saw JCS for 1st time since 1970's. Local H.S. production. Was great. As one stated it is about Judas struggle with the true identity of Jesus. Just one person's "take." We all have our own "take." But mainstream Christianity could learn from this on how to approach people.
by Iconoclastes on 4/1/2010 8:27am
Yes, Frank, if we all accept that your bible is fact, then we can all agree that it's fact. Brilliant.

Council of Nicea ring any bells? Currently there are 3 different versions of the 10 Commandments, 2 of which are Christian. Even the Gospels that the council decided to include don't quite all jive.

Historically accurate? We weren't there, absolutely no way to tell.

Histories of the American Civil War, not even 150 years ago, vary, depending on region. Not the dates and times, Sandy, but the important stuff, like the reasons for the war, and general feelings throughout. The claim of "righteousness".

Besides, I thought Christians didn't trust archeologists. You can't claim them as an authority when they agree with you.

But I *do* agree, this is a beautiful song, and I often sing it as a lullaby to little ones (well, Mary's verses, anyway).
by zerovich on 4/13/2010 3:31pm
Go Judas! If only our politicians were thinking like this guy :) Kinda agree with Jesus on "there will always be poor" but his answer to Judas can hardly be qualified as an argument.

As a child i was told all the stories. Listened to studies and had my own relationship with Jesus Christ. But not intill i saw this film did i understand clearly the story of the crusifiction.
by Iscariot on 7/28/2010 4:08pm
Great lullaby.
by Matt on 9/23/2010 9:10am
Ha, I've been playing and studying music most of my life and for some reason I didn't even clock the song is in 5! One of the most naturally grooving songs in 5 I've ever heard
by lisa on 12/10/2010 12:25pm
historically incorrect? Its supposed to be, there is a hippie van driving around, I dont think Jesus actually had one, and I also think the director has realised that.
by Penny on 12/19/2010 11:49pm
This is amazing musical because it manages to appeal to atheists and christians and agnostics! I loved it the first time I saw it.
by paige on 3/6/2011 6:50am

by Unkown on 4/28/2011 4:34am

by suz64 on 8/2/2011 7:32pm
Matt, you are right on; it's a topical lyric set into fab 5-beat measures. Love it, and I'm not religious.
by Anonymous on 8/22/2011 6:55pm
Jesus' role in this song is extremely important from a Christian perspective, as it brings about a more rational Jesus who suits modern day times. 'There will be poor, pathetically struggling, look at the good things you've got!' The tenacious Jesus we all grew up with has changed to a wiser, more focused Son of Man. In a way, he is saying we must focus more on the goodness of God, and not the wickedness of Satan. God bless!
by Jesus Himself on 9/25/2011 6:00am
Would you guys just shut up about religion, please? I don't actually have anything against what you think, but there is absolutely no need whatsoever to rub your retarded, senseless beliefs in others' faces!
by Jesus Himself on 9/25/2011 6:16am
Could you guys please stop ranting on about your senseless beliefs? Sure, I haven't got a say in what you think is true or not, and I cannot wipe out these black thoughts in your head, but at least stop planting them in other peoples' ears and rubbing it in their faces? It's annoying to have all these stupid comments flying about and clogging the page when all I want are some goddamn lyrics!!!! And maybe some piano chords. Anyway, that should point out that I'm not religious in the least.
by goon on 3/20/2012 11:27pm
My music Teacher was a total fag and douche and used to play this song to us during class,i secretly loved this song from the moment he played it and i still love it to this day.
by thetruth on 4/3/2012 7:06pm
This song is just like "Chillax Jesus, I know you're going to die soon but IT'S OKAY, DON'T WORRY." Clearly, Jesus is clinically depressed that isn't going to help him.
by Jackie on 4/7/2012 5:40am
Although I was raised as a Christian, I am not deeply religious...but every Good Friday I just have to watch the film Jesus Christ Superstar. I love every bit of it and it makes me feel so good...makes me feel closer to Jesus.
by Matt on 6/4/2012 8:19pm
I am not religious at all, but after doing this show for my school musical, I can't help but wish I was more religious. Love this whole show more than any other, and listening to this song brings back so many memories. <3 JCS.
by Eric on 7/31/2012 2:23pm
Wow...a forumn covering 4 years about a song written over 30 years ago. This is a great song that I will never forget. Whatever ones interpratation of the movie, Mary M., or Judas.....there is no question a good guy name Jesus lived a long time ago. Now I am going to read the lyrics to Pilot's Dream.
by JoBoxa on 10/18/2012 9:39pm
I'm gonna be a pedant now...it's not a musical, it's a 'rock opera' as there are no spoken words :P
Still, it is my second favourite show..a very close second to Little Shop Of Horrors. The 2012 arena tour was EPIC!!! And Ben Forster more than deserved the role. Amazing...can't wait for the DVD!!
by AnnaKissed on 2/24/2013 4:55am
Get yourselves down to Australia, all you lovers of JCS... we're about to revive it, with some excellent actors and singers. I hated it 30 years ago, but have booked my tickets for this round. And it was this song which brought it all back and motivated me to go and see it.
by Felix Notgni on 2/27/2013 12:13pm
I think this is one of the most soothing songs no matter what stress you have, atheist or not.
by Sam Tansley on 7/17/2013 2:03am
I love you Jesus Christ thank you for your life and well done
by Chris on 8/2/2013 1:30pm
anybody who thinks this sucks is displaying ignorance beyond endurance and should be thrown to the lions
by Luna on 1/6/2014 1:05pm
I have had a read in the comments section and have found that (with very few exceptions) most of the judgmental comments come from those who are most religious. Maybe consider the words of your beloved God and Christ and try not to seek conflict. You have chosen to believe in your faith, so allow us to do the same without judgment. For most of us that are atheist or agnostic (again, with exception) respect your decisions and the paths you have chosen. And trust me, we don't want to be saved. I sing this song as a lullaby to my one year old daughter and despite the fact that I don't believe in Christ, this song truly moves me, as does the story of Christs struggles in the Bible. Can we not just appreciate a beautiful song without having to endure all of this fighting?!
by Hehe on 4/18/2016 1:37am
I LOVE THIS!1!1!1!1!!1!11!!
by Nogod! on 4/18/2017 3:52am
You dickheads that believe that shit. IF jesus really was alive, he was a simple magician, nothing more. No son of God or God himself, no trinity!
by EK on 9/28/2021 2:08pm
You absolutely can accept somebody as an authority who agrees with you. Somebody who's never gone to school could say that the earth is round, and a scientific expert on the earth could agree with them. The expert isn't suddenly not an expert simply because he agreed with the uneducated man.
And just because someone has beliefs doesn't mean they are senseless and retarded. Everyone's opinion matters, which is a statement I think everybody can reasonably agree with. I'm a Christian and I thank God every day for bringing me out of a three-year bout of torturous OCD with amazing promises for my future. Thanks for reading, have an awesome day :)
