Little Good News Lyrics
Artist: Anne Murray
A Little Good News
Anne Murray
Written by Charles Black, Rory Bourke, and Thomas Rocco
Peaked at # 74 on the Pop chart in 1983 while hitting #1 on the Country chart
I rolled out this morning
Kids had the mornin' news show on
Bryant Gumbel was talkin' 'bout the fighting in Lebanon
Some senator was squawkin' 'bout the bad economy
It's gonna get worse you see, we need a change in policy
There's a local paper rolled up in a rubber band
One more sad story's one more than I can stand
Just once how I'd like to see the headline say
"Not much to print today, can't find nothin' bad to say", because
Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today
I'll come home this evenin'
I'll bet that the news will be the same
Somebody takes a hostage, somebody steals a plane
How I wanna hear the anchor man talk about a county fair
And how we cleaned up the air, how everybody learned to care
Whoa, tell me
Nobody was assassinated in the whole Third World today
And in the streets of Ireland, all the children had to do was play
And everybody loves everybody in the good old USA
We sure could use a little good news today
Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
FADE
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today

ow shit a just wonted to heer it
This song needs to be re-released because it still applies to whats going on in the World today.
This song came out in the 80's and, as I understand it, made song of the year, then it made song of the decade. It still brings tears to my eyes. What a great sentiment. Wish it could come true.
song needs updating. make a controversial version about muslims blowing stuff up!
these are not the real lyrics!
Then what ARE the real lyrics, genius??
these are the EXACT lyrics!
still can't sing this without crying. lyrics are soooo true.
still love this song heard it the other day wish it where true
it applies to today just as much as it did when she sung it the first time. I remember it well, many years ago and I just wanted to hear it again but it's all frickin money now. Paying for a song that belongs to the people of the USA is a shame It just goes to show how much MORE we need it now than then, it's nothing but money now..................
These ARE the REAL lyrics. I live in Argentina, my language is Spanish, and I can understand these are the real words. Why did this woman say so?
Anne Murray is the best. song is 30 years old and could have been written today. Anne sings with so much emotion. she was Elvis's favorite female singer. get her greatest hits and you'll know why.
Anne still has an angelic voice. She did justice to this song. What a lyrics and I just love it. America loves her. I wish I can visit her centre in Nova Scotia. Keep it up Anne because you're still one of the best in the business.
There's only one line that could be refreshed for today.
"Bryant Gumbel wa talkin' 'bout the fighting in Lebanon" could be
"The talking heads were talkin' 'bout the fighting going on"
To Sigmund - People who are pissed off with oppression and fanatics are blowing things up. Muslims do not blow anything up ... FANTASTIC SONG BY THE WAY ... Should be sung to the oppressors of the world - Bush, USA, Israel, Britain, Australia, every leader in Africa and leave the victims in peace - Palestine, Sudan, N. Irish, Bangladesh, Burma, Syria, etc
