IMHO this song is encouraging, especially for young people. I listened to this nonstop in high school.

I have a nephew who was going to do something crazy to get a general discharge out of the army, even though he had only two years of service left. It was definitely going to screw his life up. I sent him a YouTube link to "Any Major Dude" and told him to listen to the lyrics. I told him there were two lines that summed up how I felt about his impending (crazy) action:

"I can tell you all I know, the where to go, the what to do"
"You can try to run but you can't hide from what's inside of you"

He listened to the song, many times from what he said, and took those specific lyrics to heart. He stayed in the army, got an honorable discharge, and is now living a happy and successful life. All I can say is "Thank you, Steely Dan".
