This is such a great tune. I love to sing it and try to stick the wonderful sound of Walter's fuzz box guitar solo in my mind as I'm singing. I visited the Dom Rep years ago and noticed the overwhelming Hatian influence on the island. The book stores were full of books on red, green and white magic. Not much else. I visualized the young couple fighting and breaking up and then finding each other again in the USA. Something more turned up but, what the heck. Semi-mojo is better than no mojo. Musically, Lyrically and narratively, this is one seamless song. Love it!

Babs goes to Haiti for quickie divorce, has a few drinks,( zombies ). A Charlie with the lotion, a local black guy, danced with her ,fade to black like in a movie. The fuzzy guitar solo by Becker is a sexy grinding love making. Babs goes back to NYC. Has a baby from the Charlie, a Semi- mojo, half black half white kid, it grew and everybody knew.
Prolly my favorite Dan song.

I plaed in guitar most of Steely Dan songs, and sing them also. Most of my mexican (sonorans) friends like because they heard them trough me. Now, even if this song is one of my favorites, Don't take me alive,Here at the western world, and Deacon Blues beat them all...
