Yes, the song is about Stevie's breakup with Lindsey Buckingham. He was clearly at fault, and it's not just because Stevie tells it that way. Lindsey was abusive not just psychologically but physically to just about everybody when he was younger: to Christina from Sausalito who succeeded Stevie, to Carol Ann Harris who succeeded Christina, to Ken Caillat the producer of "Rumours" (whom he almost choked to death; they've all written about it. Lindsey had a five-second fuse, and you better run when he faced turned red.
He's calmed down now that he's older.
He's a good song-writer and a great guitarist, but Stevie is and was on a different plane altogether: an immortal singer and songwriter, who slaved away for him for 6 years before they made it with FleetwoodM.

Truly 1 of the saddest songs. i always hurt 4 stevie when i hear this song. how could ne one not love stevie nicks. She deserved so more than what lindsey ever gave her. the world and all of her fans love her. just love yourself stevie!

try 50 years - we were turning 13 that 1st summer of love, of the memories - it lasted thru the yrs off and on until I was 50 - it was true love but could not make it somehow - he passed after 5 yrs ago and I am still crying - yes, I am happily married for 17 years with a daughter but he will always be the #1
