the song was written when lennon heard that a random high school teacher was having her kids interpretating every single beatle song so he decided to write something completely nonsense. it is meant to be random and its lovely.

I actually heard that there is no story. I don't know if somebody already said this, I didn't read all of the comments, sorry. Anyways, once a college student told Lennon that they were trying to interpret his lyrics in class. So, being a jerk, he wrote this song and said, "Let the f*ckers work that one out..."
