Show Me Lyrics
Artist: The Pretenders
Album: Show Me
Show me the meaning of the word
Show me the meaning of the word
'Cause I've heard so much about it
They say, "Hey, you can't live without it"
Welcome to the human race
With its wars, disease and brutality
You with your innocence and grace
Restore some pride and dignity
To a world in decline
Welcome to a special place
In a heart of stone that's cold and gray
You with your angel face
Keep the despair at bay
Send it away, and
Show me the meaning of the word
Show me the meaning of the word
'Cause I've heard so much about it
I don't want to live without it
I don't want to live without it
Oh, I want love
I want love
I want love
Welcome here from outer space
The Milky Way is still in your eyes
You found yourself a hopeless case
One that's seeking perfection on earth
That's some kind of rebirth, so
Show me the meaning of the word
Show me the meaning of the word
'Cause I've heard so much about it
Don't make me live without it
Oh, love
I want love
I want
Love
I want love

Comments/Interpretations
i pooped my pants
I always thought it was "show me the meaning of the worLd"
It seems to me that "the word" in this song is "love." Clearly, when they sing "I don't want to live without it," which is followed by "I want love," they mean that it is love that they don't want to live without. Just before that, they sing, "I've heard so much about it," so it's love that they've heard so much about, and just before *that*, they sing "Show me the meaning of the word," so that's why I think the word is love.
It's always seemed to me that the lyrics sound like they're being sung to a baby, bringing its newborn innocence to a world that perhaps we've not done so well with.
Jesus is the Word.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
It's BIBLE people. Jesus is the Word!
in this song, the word is love. Jesus IS love, but He's not mentioned in this song.
The bird is the word.
This song touches the depths of my soul. . .
The album is "Learning to Crawl", not "show me"
Yep, it's the Word of God, In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God. Jesus is the Word! I wonder if Chrissie knew that was what she was singing about :) God is amazing. And God is LOVE.

This song touches my heart and my soul. Thanks for a wonderful word....love.
The song is about her firstborn child, plain and simple. It's widely known.
My bet is that the word crops up a lot in the book of love by Joe Petty.
